What Does It Mean to Be a True Hero? The dictionary defines a hero as "a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities," but not everyone chooses to interpret a hero this way. There are many ways someone can choose to see a hero as, such as soldier, superhero, or just an ordinary person who chooses to do a heroic act. In my opinion, a hero is someone who goes out of his or her way to make a significant and positive difference in someone 's life, a person who will do the right thing even when it does not necessarily benefit themselves. There is no one person or opinion that can decide what actually makes a true hero, but to some people, a hero has superpowers or has done a heroic act at least once in their life. A soldier can be identified as hero because he or she is constantly putting their lives in danger in order to serve and protect their country. In his novel, American Sniper, Chris Kyle states "MY REGRETS ARE ABOUT THE PEOPLE I COULDN 'T SAVE-Marines, soldiers, my buddies. I still feel their loss. I still ache for my failure to protect them" (Kyle). This quote is explaining how even though Chris Kyle was willing to sacrifice his life and fight for the United States, he still wished that he could have stayed to fight and save even more people. American Sniper supports how a true hero does what is right no matter what because, although Kyle had been a hero and done the right things over in Iraq, he still looked to help others in any way he could, exemplifying his true
