The extended definition of the term ‘educated “is the wealth of knowledge that is acquired by an individual study of particular subjects or matters or experiences that provides the person with a better understanding of the topics at hand”. To be educated means that a person is knowledgeable about different topics and subjects. Being educated doesn’t have to mean that the person is knowledgeable in subjects like English, math or science. It can instead be about things like knowing how to change a flat tire on your car or how to change a battery in the smoke detector.

Going to and completing high school and secondary school is what society considers as being an educated person. But completing schooling and knowing and understanding different things, including things like current events, is what ultimately makes an educated person smart. To say that someone is educated does not necessarily imply that the individual excels in a specific field, but rather they have a substantial amount of knowledge in a series of different areas. The word education often brings to mind the idea of schooling as a necessary means by which to become knowledgeable on specific information and to be conversant about the specific topic. Consequently, it seems that education is the counterpart to the experience in the quest for knowledge. Having an education means that the educated person typically has a better chance at success in the business world, and that the experience and education will allow the person to have a greater chance to land a successful and meaningful career. That success through education is something that most of us in this world strives for. In my opinion education is a doorway to …show more content…

It helps us to interrupt things rightly and apply it in real life. It doesn’t mean that education is only limited to a lesson that we were taught in college, but education can also be obtained from lessons taught by life. Only with education can a person gain the knowledge at hand. Apart from that, we can build good manners through education. Education helps build a person character which can make a person to be more civilized and mature. Another definition provided for education is found in the Oxford English dictionary and is The Process of “bringing up” a young person in a manner in which a person has been brought up. This definition seems to make more sense. High school and college are not absolutely necessary in becoming educated. The skills acquired while being brought up can often prove much more useful in real life then the 18 years of gaining knowledge in high school or college. What we learned in school should not solely be considered education. A good education includes both teachings and life experiences. This combination of both can make a person a more rounded human and is a key to helping one succeed. Education gives us knowledge of the world around us. An exceptional quote from Malcolm X is “Education is our passport to the future for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today” (Harvard 2017). While education opens the door up for career opportunities, being educated is applying
