Throughout life, people are constantly faced by situations, which necessitate them to make crucial decisions. It is important for individuals to utilise critical thinking, as it assists them to make better decisions based on evaluation and proper reasoning. According to Richard Paul and Linda Elder, critical thinking is the art of judging ideas by evaluating and analyzing them on evidence and relevance grounds (Paul & Elder, 2009). Robyn Walker (2011) goes into further details when defining critical thinking by stating:

For an organisation to achieve its goals it is not enough for the employees to memorise these key principles but they also need to work towards maintaining them (Ayad & Amine, 2010). To ensure that this objective is achieved, critical thinking must be employed as it helps the employees work diligently and efficiently towards the realization of the organisation goals. The employees need to be conversant with their roles and obligations in the company (Pignotti, & Monica, 2010). They need to understand what their goals entail. Critical thinking should be applied in order to ensure that the goals are met. Through critical thinking, the employees ask themselves what their goals entail and seek creative ways of achieving these goals. They are able to calculate the amount of time required to accomplish their goals, therefore, saving time as they are focused on the important things. They are able to reason, thus employing the best alternative to help them achieve their goals (Reid, Joanne & Phyllis, 2012). By gathering evidence when solving problems, they are able to gather resources, accumulate knowledge and gain skills that enable them achieve their goals.
