What Does Scholarship Mean
Scholarship, service, community, and creativity are important ideals that guide my everyday life. Each ideal holds unique meaning to me. Scholarship means learning, service means giving back to the community, community means feeling one's connection to others, and creativity means using the mind to create something original; however, I identify most strongly with scholarship and creativity. These ideals influence a great deal of things in my life, from my decisions to my perspective on the world. To me, scholarship means not only constantly learning but also striving to expand one's knowledge. Scholarship impacts the way we live in many ways. For example, scholarship is essential when it comes to developing one's values, which is important …show more content…
When you give back to the community through service, you are truly empowering other people and organizations through kindness. You are also gaining a sense of open-mindedness through understanding different people's problems. Service does not need to be elaborate or difficult at all; simple actions can have a profound effect. Service is appreciated and respected, and it will most assuredly brighten another person's day. A community, in my mind, is a welcoming circle that gives an individual a sense of belonging. Through communities, you are able to interact with different groups of people, which promotes open-mindedness. People can also turn to one another for advice and support when they go through burdensome times. A community is a place where one is content and safe; everybody is accepted for who they genuinely …show more content…
Ever since I was young, creativity was encouraged by my parents. Because of this, my imagination blossomed. I often created stories and illustrations with characters from faraway lands. Though I am no longer a child, creativity is not absent in my life. I am constantly thinking of different approaches to solve my problems, from the complicated, such as juggling schoolwork and dance practice, to the mundane, such as devising a plan to make it to school on time. I express creativity in various drawings and paintings, where I'm never restricted to a singular art style. Creativity has been, and always will be, a great part of my

The similarity between the conflicting definitions of community is a common reference to humanity. Beyond this there is no basic agreement. There are different types of communities according to who is defining it. For example, some definitions don’t refer to geographical area at all while others emphasise this as the main characteristic of community, known as community of place. Yet there are conflicting ideas that community doesn’t necessarily have to be an external thing but comes from within an individual, the view that community can just be sharing a common belief or common lifestyle.…

I have always cherished the value of service and its effects on communities. A school class that I take that promotes service is Student Senate. A requirement for that class is ten hours of community service per trimester, and I have been a part of this group since sophomore year. This class is all about improving our school and creating an enjoyable environment for our students to be in. An example of this would be when I helped decorate the halls during themed weeks such as Spirit Week and Winterfest along with my fellow classmates.…

~Mahatma Gandhi. Service is to help others in need or not in need. I am excited to try to do even more service in the future. I have many ideas for the school when it comes to service. One idea is to help children in hospitals by just making them something like a card or decoration. My dad is working with a company that is rebuilding St. Peter’s Hospital and I know that some of the kids in the children’s section of the hospital would love something to cheer them up. Right now for service I give my old clothes and toys to my younger cousin and if she doesn’t want them, we take them to the Salvation Army. Also like I had mentioned in the first paragraph we donate over three or four hundred dollars a year to the WGY Christmas wish organization. That money goes to poor families so the parents can buy presents or food for their children. I know I need to work on this skill in particular but I have many good…

All of you today that are being inducted into the National Honor Society should consider yourself scholars. A scholar, by definition, is a distinguished academic or one who has an aptitude for study. There is an important difference between being a scholar and simply being a student – scholars care quite a bit more. As a member of the National Honor Society myself, I realize how difficult reaching the level of “scholar” can be. Being able to reach the point where I was even considered for the National Honor Society was…

Many students graduate from college with enormous student loan debt or limit their education in an attempt to control costs. Because scholarships are free money, students can focus on their careers instead of thinking about how they will repay loans. This allows me to go into job fields that require postgraduate training or to pursue careers in public service or other areas that don’t pay high salaries. By removing financial barriers, scholarships make education and career goals easier to obtain.…
