It also changes time depending on the situation. On some, it’s millions of years into the future, millions of years in the past, or at about this day and age.
Randall Munroe, the author, is the one speaking through the book, so I would assume that he is the protagonist.
There isn’t an antagonist except for maybe anything that uses logic or restricts creativity in any way
Plot - There isn’t a proper plot in What if? since it is a nonfiction book that more of states facts and possible scenarios if certain things happened. The plot in one question it’s how long it would take for the oceans to dry up if a portal on the bottom of the deepest part of the ocean opens up and how it would change the Earth. My friends favorite is where Randall Munroe calculates how fast somebody - or something - would have to stir tea to heat it up through its kinetic energy. Whilst my favorite is the Hair Dryer(down below for the simile), I also enjoy ‘Machine Gun Jetpack’ - If any guy can, what gun could you use as a jetpack by shooting it a lot at the ground. Also, every couple of questions, he does a section of what he calls, ‘Weird and Worrying questions,’ or something of the like where he puts all the, well, weird and worrying questions then a little comic is his only response. My favorite out of those was when someone asked if it was possible to become dehydrated by crying too much. Munroe’s response was just, “Are you
