“My Papa’s Waltz” was another memorable peace of literature the class read.
It was relatable for me, not because I have had an abusive relationship, but because I was a dancer. I quit dance about a year and a half ago due to a foot injury. I broke five bones in my foot and was in a cast and boot, but that’s another story. Dancing was a great passion of mine and when I quit it devastated me. Researching and writing my journal about “My Papa’s Waltz” let me submerge into my old dancing world that I love. Reading this poem gave me insight to the abusive life of a child that I have never seen before. I really liked this poem because it wasn’t like the usual poems about seasons or
nature. As a 16 year old in 5 college classes and working part time, you would think my life was full of work and text books, well it is not. This class showed me just how out-of-order my priorities were over the whole semester. This class demands reading on your own time and I filled my time with other things like my phone, my family, and friends. I have ADHD badly so when it comes time to do my work I get distracted so easily. I am glad I enrolled in this English class because it has taught me so many things that ill use in life. It has taught me how to organize my priorities and use my time wiser all while reading literature and interacting as a class.
