The structure of a play shows the overall organization of a story and is very important to help with the understanding of the play itself. The structure is the overall foundation of a story and helps lead the reader towards very important portions of the play. A reader is allowed to maintain a fluid and easy understanding of the play as the story moves on towards the conclusion. Without having a solid foundation the story will not be able to continue and flow correctly. A great example of structure is in “Trifles” by Susan Glaspelli, in which we begin the story by being introduced to the main characters to help unfold a mystery. Paragraph 1: * Talk about the beginning with the characters * What impression did you get of each character * Mrs Peters * Mrs Hale * Were they hard to like? * Ignorant? * How the men treated the women
Paragraph 2: * Now that the reader has been introduced to these women and characters * What is your impression * How did your impression of these character change and why * What caused the changes * Talk about Mrs Wright being a little shady * Is she the murderer? * What the men missed and why * They’re rude demeanor * They’re “better than women” mindset * Led to them losing out on important and useful clues
Paragraph 3: * How important were the women in the case * The men were so hard headed and did not care about what the women had to say but they had important information for the case * The women were focused on useful information where the men were not * Women had important clues * No matter what the women said, the men did not care even if they women had important and useful clues for them to try and crack the case. * Ignorance is bliss
Conclusion:
Talk about the changes
