In December, 1830s Andrew Jackson was dealing with another state, South Carolina. South Carolina did not agree with Andrew Jackson and the tariff he set. The tariff Andrew Jackson set helped raise the price of goods for things like cloth. Which made South Carolina angry because it lowered the price of raw cotton. South Carolina tried to nullify the tariff. South Carolina threatened Andrew Jackson that if he does not take away the tariff that South Carolina would remove itself from the states. Andrew Jackson replied with a threat of his own saying that “If one drop of blood is shed that he will go to South Carolina and hang the first man on the first tree that I see.” Andrew Jackson threatened to annul a law of the United States that is incompatible with the Union, the opposite of the constitution, not allowed by its spirits, inconsistent and destructive to the great object and every principle founded directed toward South Carolina.
