way since they were first developed, so lets start this “American Revolution.”
In 1911, a man named William Durrant, and with the help of a race car driver Louis Chevrolet, began the Chevrolet Motor Company.
Durant incorporated the company on November 3, 1911 while Louis Chevrolet worked on large luxury cars. In 1913, Durant introduced one of the most recognized emblems today, the chevrolet bowtie. It is a great mystery how Durant had come up with the idea of this emblem, and there are many theories. Some say that Durant had got it from a wallpaper design from a hotel in France, or that Durant had even gotten the idea from a newspaper add. There is also the swiss flag theory of a fancier version of the swiss cross, which is Durant’s home country. But there is no positive answer on how the bowtie came into play(Rae). In 1917, chevrolet had developed a new co owner, which is who owns them today, General Motors. G.M has had its downfalls over the years, but without this company, Chevrolet would not be what it is in todays world, and would not have the conjointments chevrolet has as …show more content…
well.
The first “production’ chevrolet was the big, classic six of 1912. This car was priced at $2500 brand new in 1912. But the first chevys as we know them were 1914 royal mail roadsters that costed $750, and the baby grand touring car which had a fairly wide range in price of that time form $875-$1475 (History of Chevrolet). Just like any other companies starting to rise, you get competition. But towards the current times of 1920, Ford and Dodge were the only leaders above chevrolets marque. But what those companies did not know, was that chevrolet was about to make a big leap ahead, and start the great rise of competition. In 1931 Chevrolet finally surpassed Ford.
This had been a very hopeful goal for chevy, and they finally achieved it. Even though this would only last for three years, it was still a great point in history for Chevrolet. During the 1930’s, chevy felt the need to improve their industry, and improvise. Chevy came up with many new styles and models to surpass ford again. They had created a v-shaped grille to add to great style of the automobiles. Also hydraulic brakes for safer and quicker braking, larger engines for maximum horsepower, and convertible tops for beautiful summer days. All of these great fashion and model ideas came into great play for chevrolet, and are still a great factor in today's automotive
industry. In the 1950’s through the 1960’s Chevrolet had a new era in their industry, the muscle era. During this era, chevy had a taste for making extraordinary muscle cars, and speedy sports cars. This all started with the production of the small block v8 engine, which was in 1955. With a v8 engine, Chevrolet cars were producing more horsepower than they had ever seen before. During the 1950’s and 1960’s, Corvettes, Camaros and Impalas were introduced into the world. With the v8 engines equipped in these cars, they were very fast and were favorable to race car drivers of the time. Even today these cars are very popular for people looking for a modern day muscle car, and a little bit of speed. Now fast forward a few years to the eighties and the nineties. During this time, chevrolet made a new motor that would be one of the widest known motors to man today. The 350 engine, a engine of great production. This engine was a must in many muscle cars, pickup trucks, and full sized SUV’s. The engine made a great amount of horsepower, torque, and the engine was extremely easy to fix. All of these factors made a great role in the selling and production. But in 1999 they had stopped production of these motors, and developed new styles in vehicles. In 1999 chevy had came up with a new body style and new engine for almost every vehicle they had. These cars and trucks are still very popular today, but back then, everybody had to have one. This was another point in time when chevy was in its prime. Chevrolet hasn't changed much since the early 2000’s, but the future plans sound pretty amazing. Chevy plans on coming up with some new styles for all their cars, trucks, and SUV’s. They also plan on putting new diesel engines in the chevy Cruise, and small size pickups as well as the usual full-sized. During all these new upgrades, Chevrolet plans on being number one in the automotive industry, and having the best american made quality in the world. Its achievable, but it takes time and good quality. Chevrolet has been and still is a very productive and great automotive maker. In Future plans, they will blow competition out of the water. So if theres a person out there who wants to be a true American, and live the “American Revolution”, then lets have chevy “Run Deep” into hearts and souls of Americans and people interested in a great quality and great way of life, go out and become a part of the “American Revolution.”
