What Is History?
In my opinion, History is a teacher. However, due to the fact that history is created and interpreted by people, history is also relative to the people that interpret it. First of all, history is the record and interpretation of previous events. I feel that history is something to be learned from. After all, if a person ignores history, it won’t disappear, it will only happen again. When you study history, you analyze it and interpret it. By analyzing it you create a lesson from the facts that you have learned and you shape them to your own opinions and beliefs. However, when because what you learn from history is shaped to each individual, history’s lesson is very relative. For every little event there is not one, not two, not ten, but millions and billions of individual sides, variations and opinions all focused on that one thing. Learning from history is like going into a house filled with billions of people all the same age who all experienced the same event and listening to each individual’s account and opinion on that one event and then forming your own based on what you heard. You learn the mistakes that were made; you learn the victories and the defeats of great people and great nations; but you learn it all from a single viewpoint. It’s interesting to get insight into events that you only hear about from one side. A war that might be glorified as a great victory in one place might is probably described very differently in another place. Events that are very significant in the establishment of one country is just another treaty for another. And there are more specific things too. You might have thought one thing about the moon landing but your neighbor across the street can have a totally different opinion and that opinion could be completely the opposite of the opinion of a person living on a farm in Russia. The opinions of individuals are also very important in constructing the image of history. I believe that in order to truly learn from history, you

Jay Gatsby is a new money who made living as a bootlegger. Gatsby tried to use the fancy story to cover his real identity, the son of a poor farmer of North Dakota. That’s because he despised poverty and he was self-abasement about his childhood. So he decided to make up a story in order to pretend like an old money. He even changed his name ‘James Gatz’ to ‘Jay Gatsby’, but his new name didn’t help him to cover the insecure side of his heart. He wanted to get people’s recognition, while he was afraid that people might ‘misunderstand’ him. So he was eager to know other people’s opinion of him and tried to brainwash them to make them believe that he was an old money. Apparently, Tom Buchanan, the real old money didn’t buy it. After almost one…

History always comes to an equilibrium with time, so does everything else. Nobody is purely saint or evil, and no history is purely great or dark. While it is impossible to learn all the history to reach that optimum equilibrium, it is the College Board’s responsibility to make sure that the curriculum is balanced between progresses and setbacks. History is history because time has past. What we currently have will become history as time flows. Therefore history is not just past events, but rather past events seen and evaluated by current eyes with current values. American history taught in other countries will be different from that taught domestically, since people with different identities share different values. Students with different races will feel differently when learning the same materials. Hence, I believe that learning history is not only about “what should be taught” or “what should be emphasized;” it is about how to draw connections between historical events to currents events to foster existing values while adding what we do not know to construct…

During the time of the Black Death, religion was the most powerful force in the lives of most people. In the east and Midwest, there were two religions: Christianity and Islam. Their beliefs, causes, and how they prevented the Black Death made the Christian and Muslims responses diverse.…

I think history is a really interesting subject and I enjoy learning it. I have been taking history since junior high so history is part of my live. None of my history teachers have taught the course thoroughly because all they teach is the general information. I thought history was all about facts, but now I think differently thanks to Mrs. Lopez. Now that I am taking Chicano/a history I learned that history is the procedure known as the historical method, used to discover, organize, and interpret the available information.…
