The book of Isaiah dates back around 722 B.C. when the capital of Israel fell, and the Assyrians took over the kingdom to the death of the prophet in 680 B.C. During this book, there is major political turmoil and the kingdom is placed in the hands of multiple groups. Isaiah’s prophetic tenure last throughout the change of five kings which added to the political instability which caused people to lose hope in God. Some believe that the prophet ministered “for at least 60 years in an effort to bring the nation back to God”, even though, his prophesies did not transpire until long after his death.
