The definition of love is to feel great affection for, or a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person. The idea of being in love is something many hope to have one day. If someone is in love, they would want to display their love and show their gratitude in the best way they can. Some people may make their significant other something, cook, or even just giving their time to them. Musicians like Bruno Mars and John Legend express their love through a song. Compared to Legend’s song “All of Me,” Mars’ song is a more effective expression of love because of its use of repetition, audience, and purpose.
“Just The Way You Are” is a more effective expression of love due to the speaker’s use of repetition. For example, when the speaker talks about how beautiful and perfect his partner is he says, “There's not a thing that I would change / 'Cause you're amazing / Just the way you are” (15-17). The speaker repeats these lines throughout the whole poem several times to demonstrate how he sees perfection in his partner. However, in “All of Me,” the speaker proves his devotion by saying, “All your perfect imperfections / Give your all to me / I’ll give my all to you / You’re my end and my beginning” (15-17).
