Dedication means to be very committed and devote yourself to a certain task or purpose. The word originally comes from the Latin word dedicare, meaning to devote or consecrate. It was commonly used to refer to holy places of religion and the act of devoting yourself to a religion or religious practice. Today, it is commonly used to describe the resolve of a person with a clear goal in mind. A student who shows up for class every day and turns in good work on time is very dedicated to their education. A teacher who spends lots of their personal time creating interesting lesson plans and answering emails

Dedicating yourself to something good, such as charity work, your education, or your family, can be very rewarding for everyone involved. In my own life, I’ve often been described as dedicated. Personally, I believe that to be a much more gilded word than I deserve. I would describe myself as stubborn and set on what I want. Regardless of word choice, I have always set high goals for myself and done what was necessary to reach them. When I wanted to be captain of the soccer team, I practiced every day after school until I was good enough to earn that position. I became the sole flyer of my cheer team after a summer of rigorous training and countless hours of stretching. Recently, I have dedicated myself to my classes, my job, and maintaining my ambassador scholarship. I do my absolute best to show up for class, work, and ambassador events. I try to do good work in my classes and turn things around on time, despite any other aspects of my personal life that may make this difficult. I dedicate myself to these things because they are an important stepping stone to the thing I am really dedicated to, my future. Dedication is not something that can only
