What Is Michael Jackson Bad

The album I chose is “Bad” by Michael Jackson. It was released on August 31, 1987 . The album sold over 45 million copies . It was the first album to have over five different songs hit the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart . Jackson wrote and co-produced, alongside Quincy Jones the producer, nine of the eleven songs . It took just over a year to record and he earned the Video Vanguard Award at the MTV VMA awards in 1988 . “Thriller”, Jackson’s first album and was a big hit which is why it was so hard to follow but he did an exceptional job . He also worked with a number of other talented people for percussion, vocals, and various other instrument playing. Jackson was very strict about how everything looked in his videos and how
He was a rule breaker. In his song he was singing about how bad he was and in the video he had broken into what looked like a train station . They also vandalized the station while they are there, by spray painting graffiti and tearing down posters. In the music video, released the same year the album was, there was only men present. In addition, they were the only ones doing the backup vocals. But Jackson could get pretty high in pitch which is, most of the time, what women were primarily used for, as backup vocals. Jackson and the backup dancers wore clothes to represent being bad men and showing masculinity. Jackson is wearing all black leather with chains on his jacket to show that he is tough. The backup dancers are wearing vests and bandanas which made them look tough as well. His lyrics, “Well they say the sky's the limit, and to me that's really true, but my friend you have seen nothing, just wait 'til I get through” makes it sound like he has already made a good album, Thriller, but if you think that is his best work you have not seen anything yet. Jackson was always about making the world a better place because he mentions in this song, “we can change the world tomorrow, this could be a better place” . He wanted to get rid of poverty, war, and racism. Michael Jackson was African American. The video shows real clips from wars and people protesting. It also shows many malnourished children from Africa and even homeless people laying on the street . Most importantly it shows Hitler and the KKK and many clips of racism being depicted . Jackson wanted to make the world a better place but as his song states, “I’m starting with the man in the mirror” starting with yourself instead of trying to make others change is the way to start . Jackson wanted all people of the world to be equal. If femininity is making everyone equal, as we discussed in lecture, than Jackson was trying to make this happen and this song is one example of
