This artifact is a letter written by my professor Dr. Maureen Walsh explaining my involvement in Read across America Day at North Schuylkill Elementary School. I co-taught two lessons on this day one in a secondary classroom and one in a kindergarten classroom. This experience allowed me to practice teaching strategies and work collaboratively with the community. This artifact fits under standard #10: leadership and collaboration, since it explains an opportunity I had to work with a peer and serve my community. By doing this experience I gained a lot of knowledge on how to work well with other professionals and volunteer in my community. This is an example of my best work since it demonstrates how a professor noticed my ability to use the…

“Clothes mean nothing until someone lives in them”, declared top designer Marc Jacobs. Although others may have differing opinions; there is definite significance to clothing in history. Although clothing began as simply a way to combat the environment, purely functional, it quickly evolved to represent the values of people and became a method of self-expression. Clothing started Europe has consistently been a center for innovations in culture and fashion. With every major event that occurred, there was a similar change in the previous garments. Artifacts represent people, places, and events and hold a significant meaning to someone. If I was backpacking through a country, my backpack would contain an American flag, a toy Maryland blue crab, and my diploma. The American flag represents not only my love for America but also my unique identity as an American. The blue crab symbolizes the unique culture of Maryland and my connection to the state of Maryland. The diploma is a symbol for not only the senior class but also my second family. The American flag, the Maryland blue crab, and the high school diploma are symbols that represent who I am.…

The visual artifact I choose to rhetorically analyze is the "super racist" Red Cross safety poster. This visual artifact was introduced into the mainstream media on June 27, 2016, after it spread throughout Twitter and sparked for being racist. The goal of this poster was to introduce pool/swimming safety to children across the nation. The poster was posted in two Colorado pools in Salida and Fort Morgan. This poster displayed safe and unsafe actions of children playing in the pool, titled "be cool, follow the rules". Why was this poster considered racist? The poster separated "not cool" and "cool" actions of children playing properly around the pool and children misbehaving. Most of the children playing properly were children of the white…

A quinceanera usually begins with a religious ceremony such as a mass specifically for the quinceanera. This represents the parents presenting their little girl to God and blessing her. Then a reception is held in a home or a banquet hall. The celebration includes food music and usually a dance or a waltz performed by the quinceanera. There are many traditions in a quinceanera but one of the most popular is the changing of the shoes. Usually the father changes the young girls flat shoes to high heels.…

It’s pretty obvious what ill be talking about today and for those that are completely clueless then good at least I’m surprising a few. For those who don’t know what I’m holding, this right here established the foundation of my childhood, culture, and future. You guys thought I was going to keep it simple and say, “It’s just a soccer ball” well yes it is but to me it’s so much more than that. Lets begin with saying soccer is universal. There is so much more than running non-stop for 90 minutes and going up and down a field chasing a ball. Since I cant speak for everyone in the room and I don’t have super powers to read peoples mind, to me, soccer builds our character, holds families together, and brings a divided world into one.…

As a college student, I can’t help but to notice how easily distracted students can get due to social networks like Facebook and Twitter. For a fact I know I have been distracted due to social networking like Twitter. I tweet an average of over 200 tweets per day. Twitter is so distracting that hours can go by and I will not notice that it has been that long. I get so distracted by all the gossip in the media, and wondering what is going on with everyone else that by the time I log off I forgot what I had to do. Getting on Twitter everyday is a priority; it’s like a daily task that has to be accomplished. Social media has been one of the top distractions for most teenagers. We are so interested in the things that go on in the world today that the common responsibilities like homework, school, and sometimes-even family are forgotten. It seems as if the Internet has taken over our lives. Why is so distracting?…
