A personality disorder is the class of mental disorder which is characterized by unhealthy personality patterns. The enduring personality is not flexible but keeps on changing according to various situation. This type of disorder is believed to be effective for long duration and can be tracked in adolescents or early adults. These type of disorders are usually unidentified by therapist and can be accounted to other types of mental disorders. Such disorders are usually marked by the character they possess throughout their lifetime. Narcissistic personality disorder is classified by that personality disorder who needs good admiration and consider themselves "special". These type of personality disorder
occurs from early adulthood, and exist throughout the lifetime. They have a great grandiose sense of self-importance. They are also very proud of what they have achieved within their life and is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited power, success, brilliance, beauty and ideal love. They also consider themselves great without any usual achievement and are unaware of the situation they pass through. They also believe that other are jealous of him or her and whatever they have achieved within their life. They are unaware of the disorder they possess and thus it is rare that they visit a therapist for treatment. They also need excessive admiration from time to time. They possess lack of empathy, thus they are not willing to understand how others feel and also they are unable to recognize the feeling of others. They also believe that they can be understood by few people and they are willing to be associated with people or community with high standards, thus they seek for those people to admire them. However, they still want to be admired as superior among that community without any high achievement.
These people are highly self-centered and try to gain attention from their peers so that they will be admired by the people around them. However, when they fail to accomplish their task they are highly arrogant and haughty. They need to gain high attention from other people. Sometimes they are actually seen to set a goal just to gain admiration from others and they want to have a lot of personal standards and believe they are exceptional in front of other. They are likely to hurt the feelings of other for gaining their own achievement. Also, they tend to believe that all people are very jealous with the achievement that they believe, they have gained.
These disorders are however not caused by psychological effect due to substances like drugs and alcohols or general medical condition. They may be caused by constant admiration to them within their childhood.
