One way to treat this disease is to have an emergency operation on the limb that has been infected. This will result in cleaning out the wound by removing infected tissue and then making sure that the disease has not spread. If the disease has spread then this may lead to having the limb amputated. This can also be the result of the limb no longer having enough tissue that can still be saved. In some instances where the disease has started to develop on an area that can not be amputated or saved then the disease may kill slowly.
