What Is Necrotizing Fasciitis?
Necrotizing Fasciitis is a disease commonly known as flesh eating disease, hospital disease, and a type of gangrene. Many cases have been documented as late as the renaissance era. Many also theorize that this disease can be dated further back. This disease started to pop up during the independence war and the civil war. Although people think that this disease is no longer a problem, that is not the case. This disease still thrives in many parts of the world, the worst part of this is that it can not be detected immediately. Many people may not even know of the existence of this disease unless they have seen cases of it. Although it may not be common to see this disease there have been cases in which people claim to have gotten the …show more content…
One way to treat this disease is to have an emergency operation on the limb that has been infected. This will result in cleaning out the wound by removing infected tissue and then making sure that the disease has not spread. If the disease has spread then this may lead to having the limb amputated. This can also be the result of the limb no longer having enough tissue that can still be saved. In some instances where the disease has started to develop on an area that can not be amputated or saved then the disease may kill slowly. In a special situation there was a woman that had the disease spread throughout her face and she did not look for treatment until a later time. Although this does not happen in a short period of time, it happens rapidly due to the bacteria that has entered the body. Once this happens the bacteria does not eat the flesh like the name “flesh eating disease” may lead you to believe. Instead this bacteria works like a type of acid that dissolves the flesh and muscle that leads to the grisly appearance of the disease.
