What is Technology?

Technology by definition, involves the creation, alteration, usage of tools, machines, and techniques in order to solve and improve preexisting problems. Technology has been instrumental in helping humans control and adapt to their natural environments. Moreover, it has also helped develop more advanced economies. Recent technological advancement such as the internet, mobile phones and automated machines, has lessened barriers to communication. However, there have also been major setbacks in human interpersonal communication since the development of the internet and automated machines. Skeptics worry about breach in privacy deterioration in intellectual abilities and customer service. Nevertheless, the ongoing debate still remains as to whether Computer Technology improves human communication or worsens it.
Technology plays a vital role in terms of customer service. It increases efficiency and convenience for financial transactions. However, it requires a great deal of precision since most recent human transactions are conducted through automated systems. Some advantages of automated systems include higher production rates and increased productivity, more efficient use of materials, better product quality and improved safety. Higher output and increased productivity have been two of the biggest reasons in justifying the use of automation.
Automated systems are convenient but they also create alienation. There is sometimes a sense of frustration when an individual creates transactions through a machine. A machine might not always be able to detect emotions and the human aspects of individuals. Many times there is also the problem of redundancy, where calls are redirected to a human customer service representative. Redirection of calls ultimately creates long waiting times and builds up customer frustration. The same concept applies when there is a noticeable abscense of human cashiers at the grocery stores.
