Autism is a neurobiological disorder that indiviuals live with for their whole lives. People with autism may struggle with socialization and communication. A person with autism may struggle with communication and have trouble starting a conversation with others. According to Gargiulo (2012), autism spectrium disorder is defined as "developmental disorders characterized by abnormal or impaired development in social interaction and communication and markedly restricted repertoire of activity and interests. (p.616). Researchers are unsure the cause of autism and there is no way to prevent autism.
