My personal reaction to this was emotional because of the things that happened in the story. The main characters ahim and Hassan were both young boys who were at the age of ten when the story has started. Ahim was a boy who lived with his father and his servants in this big house in afghanistan. While Hassan was one of the poor people where he lived at the time. Both boys weren’t really accepted in their culture because …show more content…
It actually worked. After that, Ahim and his father Baba, had decided to leave afghanistan and move to the states. By the time they moved over to the U.S, Ahim was already an adult in his early twenties. While he was there, Baba was diagnosed with cancer and before he dies he wanted something from Ahim. What he wanted him to do was that he wanted him to marry this one girl named sarim. Eventually they did get married and Baba was the one who paid for their wedding. Unfortunately Baba dies from cancer. One day Ahim receives a call from afghanistan, it was a man who had knew Ahim when he was still a little boy. What he wanted from him was that he wanted him to go back to his hometown. When he go there, he got welcomed with some bad news. Hassan and his wife were killed because they had tried doing something to his wife and he tried defending her but it went all wrong and they both got …show more content…
Another thing was that Ahim didn't know that Hassan was actually his cousin because Baba had an affair with one of his servants and that person whom he had an affair with was Hassan's mother. That made Ahim surprised and he wanted to take him back and adopt him because Ahim and his wife couldn’t have kids. After going through a lot just to find him, Ahim actually had to smuggle his nephew into the states. When they both go there, his nephew didnt really know how to react becuase he didnt have nothing that made him happy. Ahim had an idea and tought him how to fly kites just like how him and his cousin did it as kids. This book is really good. I really enjoyed the ending because Ahim and his nephew finally had a moment and Ahims wife finally got what she wanted and that was a child. The book was wriiten very well, I liked how the author put flashbacks and put some twist in there like when the author revealed that Hassan was Ahims cousin. It really had me thinking how easy it was for both of them to get acceoted into their culture just by doing something that was fun. I would recommend this book to other people if they really like adventure, romance, action, and a good
