As a coach I want to be the leader of a successful program who helps student athletes excel on and off of the field. I will do this by first hiring good assistant coaches around me who can help me bring my vision to reality. It will require dedication from the student athletes in the classroom and in practice and games to be the absolute best they can be in any situation. It will be up to me to instill in my athletes hard work and dedication in everything they do. So I will first need them to respect and maybe even fear me a little bit, but I still need to maintain a close enough relationship with them to where they can consider me a friend and be able to turn to me in any time of need. I will first stress the importance of hard work through drills and conditioning, but at the same time not make it feel like work for them; make them understand there is a reason for all of the things that we do on a daily basis. Once the team understands what it takes to play for me; maybe even some quit because they think it will be too hard, that's what I want; I don't want the weak ones who will give up on themselves and their teammates, only the strong will survive. Then you can evaluate each individual in every facade of the game and start to teach them in the areas that they are weak and strengthen their strengths. I want my team to be able to runs themselves without one coach needed at a practice or a game. Of course coaches will be there but by halfway through a season I want my team to run like a well-oiled machine not needing any coaches to tell them to do any specific thing. The most effective managers are those who can coach and collaborate. If one is able to coach their employees effectively then they are able to create sustainable long-term results for themselves and their company. Coaching is action of helping others to perform better, whether it is through feedback, demonstrations, or teaching. It is investing in the people within a company and shaping them into better employees so that they can not only perform their tasks better, but also better qualify for promotions. Many coaches have their own philosophy to live by. Some coaches are to win, some are to teach the players to be responsible, and some are to allow the players to just have fun. When the word philosophy comes to mind I immediately think of the words and accomplishments a coach should live by. My coaching philosophy is one that is not fully developed. After reading these three articles between how coaches and players do not get along with them attacking each other and when a player does something terrible and the coach defends them. We all have been in a situation where we do not want to be talked to by a family member or friend just because he had a bad day, but when you bring that attitude to a sporting event or practice sometimes the player or coach my lose their composure. Which happened in the three articles that I read, dealing with Latrell Sprewell choked his coach PJ Carlesimo during practice, coach Bobby Knight choked one of his own players Neil Reed, and when Rick Carlisle defended Ron Artest and other players he coached after the brawl in Detroit. In reading those articles I feel that they told me that there is either a bad, competitive, or good relationship between a player and coach. The one with Sprewell and Carlesimo, Sprewell who showed up to practice late that day choked his coach Carlesimo because Carlesimo wanted to know where he has been for being late. Although in the article it states that racial comments were said to Sprewell, but later found out that there were no such thing. So Sprewell was fired by the Golden State Warriors, the team he played for at the time, and was suspended by the NBA for the remainder of the season. In the article about Bobby Knight choking his player Neil Reed, it was halftime during a game when Bobby Knight was still coaching the Indiana University 's men 's basketball team and Knight was so upset with his players that the one player Neil Reed said something to Knight and Knight went after him and started choking him. After the news broke out about that incident the Indiana University 's President fined Bobby Knight $30,000 and suspended him three games. I believe an effective coach can make the difference between a winning, successful, and happy team versus a struggling team in the workplace. If the coach is doing their job correctly the team will be willing to learn, communicate, and be more effective. Mental toughness is a psychological edge that helps one perform at a high level consistently. Mentally tough athletes exhibit four characteristics: a strong self-belief (confidence) in their ability to perform well, an internal motivation to be successful, the ability to focus one’s thoughts and feelings without distraction, and composure under pressure. Self-efficacy is a belief that one can successfully perform a specific task. In sport, self-efficacy has been conceptualized as sport-confidence. However, efficacy beliefs are specific to a certain task (e.g., I believe I can successfully make both free throws), whereas confidence is a more general feeling (e.g., I believe I will have a good game today). Arousal refers to one's physiological and cognitive activation. While many researchers have explored the relationship between arousal and performance, one unifying theory has not yet been developed. However, research does suggest perception of arousal (i.e., as either good or bad) is related to performance. Motivation can be defined broadly as the will to perform a given task. People who play or perform for internal reasons, such as enjoyment and satisfaction, are said to be intrinsically motivated, while people who play for external reasons, such as money or attention from others, are extrinsically motivated.…
