What Is The Difference Between Atticus And To Kill A Mockingbird

1. Harper Lee has composed a fascinating and winner of “Pulitzer Prize” novel, named as “To Kill a Mocking Bird”; indeed there are many interesting characters and main characters in the novel such as Atticus, the father of narrator of the novel Scout and her older brother Jem, but there is another enjoyable character in the novel of Aunt Alexandra, who is sister of a widow Lawyer Atticus. The relation of Atticus with his sister Alexandra enchants the readers as Alexandra possesses strong stubborn and resolute character, she wants to rule, whether other person like or not like her opinions. However, Alexandra honestly shows her response and choice about the person, she does not care if her ideas hurts or make them happy. On the other hand, Atticus
is quite different, and runs his family in different manner, where he gives right to his children, to stand for justice against evils and bad thoughts. In contrast to Atticus, Alexandra favors the old tradition values and represents a strong racial, heritage thoughts like as southern ladies and she want to make Scout like her.In the beginning, when Alexandra come to live with Atticus family to teach some good and beneficial women attitude to Scout, Atticus and family warm welcome her.
When introducing Sister Alexandra to his children and he want his children to follow rule and regulation set by Alexandra as a brother he does not want to hurt his sister, so he tries to convince his kids to be patient and do what as she says. The author in the novel “To kill a Mocking Bird” narrates the lines by Mr. Atticus as, “Your aunt’s doing me a favor as well as you all. I can’t stay here all day with you and the summer’s going to be a hot one” (146). Such statement reflects Mr. Atticus have a good feeling for Alexandra as she come to stay with his family to make Scout a better lady. Alexandra wants Atticus’s family to live a life according to her way but it would not possible as family is already going through with many ups and downs. In such situation, Atticus starts to take stand against her sister obstinate ideas. Atticus also able to realize that Jem get under influenced by Alexandra and now he try to over rule his younger sister
Scout. This makes their relation affected as Atticus realize that his children are badly affected with Alexandra’s attitude. Scout also feels the change in his father’s mood and the author narrates it as,” I was beginning to notice a subtle change in my father these days, that came out when he talked with Aunt Alexandra. It was quiet digging in, never outright irritation” (208). So being a child Scout also feels the change in his father’s attitude toward Aunt Alexandra. Moreover, he does not want his children to grow under anyone influence, he wants Jem and Scout lives independently. Thus, the relation between Atticus and Alexandra changes over time. Sometime they shown up against with each other in their opinions and sometime in the novel, Atticus overwhelmed with Alexandra opinions.
