In the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Twain use Jim as Huck’s guide to evolution. In the beginning of the book Huckleberry is seen as very childish, he doesn't know where he belongs. He soon starts to become friends with Jim the slave but he still calls him “nigger” and he doesn't really understand that he had feelings, he treats Jim as anyone would treat a slave. Sethe was an independent woman who was dedicated to her child. However she was traumatized for, all her experiences of being a slave, she never left her house or talk to anyone. When Beloved appeared it changed everything, fist she began to ask personal questions “It amazed Seth (as much as it pleased beloved) because everything was painful or lost. She and Baby Suggs had agreed without saying so that it was unspeakable; to Denver’s inquires Sethe gave short replies or rambling incomplete reveries.” (Morrison page 69). Although it hurt Sethe to talk about these events it help her cope, even if she didn’t go in depth she was able to inflict a change in her life were she didn’t have to be afraid to talk about her experiences. As well as getting Sethe to talk Beloved soon gets her to play and have fun with Denver, “At first they played together. A whole month and Denver loved it. From the night they ice-skated under a star-loaded sky and drank sweet milk by the stove, to the string puzzles.”( Morrison page 282). Having Beloved live with Sethe and Denver caused a drastic change in their relationship. Sethe never really experienced having a fun relationship with her daughter until Beloved guided her to do so. By the end Beloved is now gone and Sethe is able to continue to grow without her she was finally able to be with her love of her life Paul D “ “Sethe”,he says, “me and you, we got more yesterday than anybody. We need some kind of tomorrow.” … You your best thing, Sethe. You are.” His holding my fingers are holding hers.”( Morrison page 322). She has always had trouble with her relationship because of what she went through as a slave,mother, and run-away, but having Beloved be part of her life she was able to change the way that she saw
