If we look at The Help, we see an intolerant, racist town. Through all the struggle of the help, they begin to turn the town around. We learn that it’s better just to treat people equally because we wouldn’t want to be treated how they are treated. Also, if we look at The Book Thief we can see Liesel hiding her friend because it’s the right thing to do. She doesn’t care about the consequences because she sees this as a noble cause worth fighting for.
If we look overall at both of these tales, they are both tough journeys. If I had to give an opinion on who’s was more difficult I would hands down say it was Liesel. Her mother had to leave her and didn’t tell her why. Her brother died on the train, so she now has no one from a time before Himmel Street. She lives in a war ridden country and is in constant fear of bombings and loss of everything she ever knew. She did lose everything, her friends, family, and home.
