What Is The Historical Accuracy Of The Movie The Young Victoria
In The Roycroft Dictionary, author Elbert Hubbard wrote, “History: Gossip well told”. Hubbard’s words ring true to the events that took place in Queen Victoria’s life and the movie representing her actions, as well. The acclaimed movie, The Young Victoria, stars Queen Victoria, played by Emily Blunt, and Prince Albert, who prove their selfless love for each other after living in other people’s worlds. The movie shows Victoria’s struggle to find herself while she finds her allies too. I believe that the movie, The Young Victoria, is not an accurate portrayal of the real life events of Queen Victoria because of incorrect representation of Victoria’s love interest Albert, characters from her young life, and situations surrounding her love …show more content…
For instance, while the movie mainly focused on Victoria and Albert’s relationship, Victoria was constantly being pushed to find new relationships. “King William encouraged Victoria to meet other suitable candidates for her hand,” (“Victoria” Historical). Even her uncle who ultimately wanted Victoria and Albert to stay together was pushing them away. For the movie to have been completely accurate, they should have shown how many other suitors she had because she easily could have chosen someone else over Albert. She loved parties and balls and delighted in staying up till dawn dancing. She was not keen on hunting but like to ride and kept dogs. So hard did she play that some of her ministers began to fear that she was exhibiting the Hanoverian love of sensual pleasure that had led her uncles into sexual escapades and debt,” (“Victoria” Historical) In the movie, Queen Victoria seems like a no nonsense women who would not have time for these things, so they underestimated her personal life. It also shows that while she was dealing with all of the terrible political issues, she had other problems too, which would have really added to the movie. Lastly, in real life Victoria acted differently among different people, but in the movie she only had one personality. In the movie she was mainly just selfish, but in reality, “those she disliked found her somber and terrifying; her ladies, servants, and grandchildren thought she looked “so dear” and idolized her,” (“Victoria, Queen”). This was an important part of who Victoria was, and the movie didn’t do a very good job of showing the fear that some people felt when in her presence. Victoria’s love and political life caused inaccuracies in

The princess Bride does have a few weak moments, and lacks development of its characters and their personal storylines as well as poor dialogue choices at times. But overall this a great love story with some moments worthy of an action/adventure. The Medieval setting does support the plot and the characters in many ways such as speech and personalities. This is a film for all ages, and anyone interested in more traditional love…

Movies are made to be sold and not history to be perfectly told. If movies include a complete history, it wouldn't be known as a movie anymore. However, it would be called a documentary, which most people get fed up of. So interpretations, exaggerations and idealistic scenes are added to the movie to make it more interesting for the audience. "The Patriot" is a similar film made during the modern day time about a time period in which none of the experienced the real revolution. Politically, socially, and culturally, "The Patriot" attempts to give a sense of the scope of aspects involved in the American Revolution. Despite succeeding in this regard, it still lacks details that reveal the true complexity of the mixed sentiments present in this time period.…

Clara Bow's fame did not leave her nature tainted, in a sense. She did not become spoiled or uppity. She remained rather self-less and ignorant to fame and those in its power. Her impudent attitude never faltered; she continued to live as the "chewing-gum-smacking eight-grade drop-out kid," unaware of convention. Hey psychological welfare, though, was greatly affected. She was institutionalized, slit her wrists and throat, and eventually became the embodiment of an actress-gone-bad; booze, men, gambling, drugs, and insomnia.…

This era became popular after the French Revolution when the people of Great Britain had revolted against the parliament. Once Queen Victoria was in power, she saw a reason to encourage society to improve, to enforce, to reform, to benefit, to prevent, to relieve, to educate, to reclaim, to encourage, to propagate, to maintain, to promote, to provide for, to support, to effect, to better, to instruct, to protect, to supersede, to employ, to civilize, to visit, to preserve, to convert, to mitigate, to abolish, to investigate, to publish, to aid, to extinguish. The Victorian Era was not seen as a dark period of credulity and superstition, but as an era of great deeds and deep emotions, far away from the prosaic and mechanical world of early industrial society. On the other hand, religion was not represented as a main focus because the central idea of this movement was human emotions. It caused Enlightenment rationalists lost power towards religion and came back to their cultural beliefs, however, religion was still part of their lives especially in their art. Also, there was a growing view in society that women should not be higher than a man and that she should out of respect let the man be in control, however, when Queen Victoria became in power she sparked a movement of equality for both genders and that same sense of…

Stephen Frears' attempt to portray into a behind the scenes look into the royal family related to the interplay of both personal and public life. We are immediately introduced to the Queen through a tilt shot go her being painted, note that the camera angle when on the Queen is almost all of the time above her head, this is symbolic into two representations, one, the Queen is viewed as the figure head of the nation 2 we gain a god like perspective of the Queen reflecting the natural hierarchy. This shot of the Queen shows her very traditionally dressed as a reflection of her traditional values and the monarchy, a long shot of the Queen with the cape draped around her reflects her private nature however Frears is giving us an inside into this hidden aspect, at the same time Tony Blair is being interviewed on T.V. about becoming Prime Minister, note that the two modes being used juxtaposed the traditional values of the Queen that of the modern government.
