b) Does globalization promote development of the community or not? Explain
Globalization creates a lot of wealth for a few while creating so many other poor. According to the documentary, globalization makes us unhappy, breeds insecurity, wastes natural resources, accelerates climate change, destroys livelihoods, increases conflicts and is built on false accounting. Ladakh, a small region in northern India, prior to introduction to western culture, was an ideal society. Ladakh had a fully localized economy where there were isolated cases of unemployment and everyone was living a healthy and happy life. However, upon the introduction of western culture, there was an increasing trend that led to extreme loss of their happiness due to economic constraints. It is sad to note that globalization, be it good or bad, is an unavoidable occurrence. Instead of dealing with the problems of globalization head-on, it can be worth it to try and slow the process. This should be followed by a return to community based economies by favoring locally produced goods for local needs over long distance goods, where people can forge connections with locals by buying, selling or consuming locally produced
