The reference to a bird wandering around his or her partner, crushed by a truck on the road is sad and highlights aan unatural death. The body of the twenty-eight parrot is described as “crushed”. This is very significant as it denotes the idea that it did not die peacefully and gracefully as a bird should die at the end of it’s natural cycle- but killed, presumabley, by the truck. This is symbolic of the effect that humanity’s intrusion has on the environment and the natural word. It disrupts the natural cycle, the way things should be. The bird is described to have died “so early in the morning, in the cold the fog not yet lifted” which further establishes the idea of a premature death- one that should not have happened. The death of a parrot and the apparent grief of its partner are almost inconsquential and represent the lack of care we have for what we are doing to the natural world. This constrasts with the truck driver, “hyping up the flesh” with a coffee to charge down the road, completely unaware of a crushed twenty-eight but to likley meet the same fate.…
Benjamin Franklin once said, “Where there is a marriage without love, there will be love without marriage.” (Benjamin) Marriage is the foundation for social order because it restrains us from self centeredness and self indulgence. However, with the wrong significant other, one can find themselves on the path to adultery. (Craven) Ethan Frome is a story of a family caught in a deeply rooted domestic struggle. In the novel, the main character Ethan is caught in a love triangle between his wife Zeena, and his maid Mattie. There are numerous themes and conflicts throughout the context. However, within the themes of weakness, isolation, poverty, loves and death, the author brings in five different symbols. A symbol is a thing that represents or stands for something else, esp. a material object representing something abstract. (Symbolling) Moreover, they allow the characters to articulate their emotions more clearly to the reader, which is very useful in bringing light to the story, and it illuminates the meaning that cannot be expressed in words. For example, a dark room symbolizes darkness, depression, gloominess, and hopelessness; therefore we would link that part of the story with darkness. Although, some symbols are easy to define, others require more research and reading. Likewise, through reading Ethan Frome, the color red, pickle dish, cat, setting, and light and darkness all highlight the major conflicts that arise throughout the context. (Wharton)…

I totally agree with what you said for number 4. The Confederacy was based on the idea that whites and blacks were different and should not have the same rights. I also agree that this flag is against American principles that all men were created equal, and therefore it is a symbol of racism and…
The repetition is shown with the swastika flags going down the walkway on both sides. Flag showing Nazi party is taking over and if the people have a problem they are going to have to deal with the men holding them. The Nazium party which was really evil when it came down to what Hitler really wanted. Swastika were on the soldiers left arm also on the flag and symbols on top of the flags. Soldiers having the swastika on their arm shows they are for the Nazium. Flag to them is like the American flag to The United States. They have respect for their flag and their country. The swastika used to mean something good like good fortune. Hitler made the symbol look evil and people are scared to see it.…
They had found the empty bird cage inside with a broken door on it. At first it is not something that anyone focuses on, although odd. It was when the women found the dead bird with its neck broken. They found that Minnie was going to bury the bird in a beautiful box. It is in seeing that beautiful box that you know that she had to care for the bird. It was Mrs. Hale staring at the bird, knowing that bird meant so much to Minnie, that she realized how lonely it must have been. “I wonder how it would seem… never to have had any children around.” (pg 212) In the times the story was written about, women had a role to fill. It was expected of women to get married, take care of their husband and home, and have children. That bird filled a role in Minnie’s life, showing just how lonely and isolated she…
First, you need to remind yourself that ducks are peaceful animals. Ducks will run away from you if you get too close, and they are frightened away by several things, like plastic bags for example. If a duck is observing you, it will be easy to break its line of sight with any object you find around you.…
In the earliest of time, duck hunting was essential. Indian tribes would use canoes and dogs to catch ducks to feed their families. They would leave early in the morning to beat the sunrise and get out on the water. Ducks were hunted in January and February when they’re fat for better feeding. Then, in the 1800’s the breach-loading shotgun was created for field sports. This allowed duck hunting easier because now they are easily shot in flight instead of canoeing. The shotgun is quickly reloaded so that more duck can be hunted in a single setting. Ducks and other birds have great eyesight, which made them harder to be hunted so the creation of camouflage came about. Hunters would wear clothes to blend in with the trees, grass, and environment surrounding them. They then began building duck blinds out of wooden frames and screened with brush and grass so that the hunter would be hard to see. Then, in the 1960’s decoys were made from carved and painted wood to float in the water. They are spread out so that ducks are encouraged to land on the water. Finally, we have the duck call. This was created to mimic many sounds of ducks so that they will land in the spread of decoys for easier an easier kill.…
Duck is the common name for a large number of species in the Anatidae family of birds, which also includes swans and geese. The ducks are divided among several subfamilies in the Anatidae family; they do not represent a monophyletic group (the group of all descendants of a single common ancestral species) but a form taxon, since swans and geese are not considered ducks. Ducks are mostly aquatic birds, mostly smaller than the swans and geese, and may be found in both fresh water and sea water.…
The exploration of the world has always been interesting to the human mind. During the 1700s, many discoveries were made of new land including North America. The exploration of the western hemisphere was a great feat for the Europeans. The Europeans were the first explorers that colonized in what is known as The United States of America today. Ever since people set foot on American soil, people went through several movements that often changed many aspects of America and the daily lives of the citizens that colonized the states. One of the main movements that greatly influenced America as a whole was the Enlightenment period.…
“The Ugly Duckling” has all the characteristics of a fairytale. Some of the characteristics that make a story a fairytale could be good vs. bad, talking animals, focus plot on a problem, the protagonist leaves home, usually end with a happy ending and a moral. “The Ugly duckling happens to have all of these. In the story all the animals could verbally communicate among each other, even chickens and ducks. The good ugly duckling had to face some mean and bad animals that picked on him for being so different from the rest. The problem throughout the whole story was for the ugly duckling to find where he truly belongs, with his real family. The ugly duckling (which is the protagonist)…
The narrator has some difficulties at home. Not long ago, her father moved out, and her mother is still having issues, and never leaves her room. It is clear that the narrator feels different from the others. She feels like she doesn’t fit in. As a matter in fact she even says: “I hated everyone. [...] everyone else who lived and breathed inside the Franconia town limits.” She probably feels a bit lonely. And the only person, who seems to understand her, is Eugene. Like her, Eugene is a bit lonely, and she knows exactly how he feels, when he every night goes to his backyard by himself and let his horn owl fly free. The narrator can sense, that Eugene doesn’t fit in either, and she loves the thought of having someone to share her own view of this life with.…
