What Is The Theme Of All The Bright Places By Jennifer Niven

The book All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven follows the story of two high school students named Violet and Theodore who are just trying to find their place in this world. Theodore suffers tremendously from a mental illness while violet is vigorously trying to put her sister's death into the past. Theodore and violet find their common ground of suffering while meeting on top of the school bell tower both having the clear intention of committing suicide. Once they've convinced each other to come down they decide to join forces to work together on a school project. Little did they know this project would slowly bring them together causing them to fall in love. This book impacted my thoughts in more ways than just one. One of the things it taught me was to never judge a book by its cover. In saying this I don't mean physical features more so emotionally. In the story Violet would try not to let it show that she was still carrying baggage from her sister's death while Theodore had many emotional battles of his own. Regardless of their struggles to the public eye no one would've ever known what the two of them had been through. In the book Theodore suffers from bipolar disorder which causes him to have really high,highs and extremely low,lows. Theodore is hooked on the idea of death,how he is going to die, when and even why is going to die. He is known as the school freak and never knew how to be himself until he met violet. Mental illnesses are something that are generally overlooked but after reading about all of the setbacks it caused Theodore you realize that something like that takes a huge toll on someone's day to day life.
