As I take this unfamiliar journey, I will be documenting important events and useful information that might be helpful to both established and starting vegans, and even to those who are thinking about transitioning to a vegan lifestyle.…
More medical proof has been released about veganism that says it is beneficial and more bountiful than that of our standard American diet. As American’s we are used to french fries, burgers, and milkshakes as our go to dishes. These foods are now being recognized as detrimental to our health over time and/or with persistency. Our culture is rated as a sick and overweight culture. Healthcare is costly in our nation and our food is the cause of this. In 2012, according to the California Healthcare Foundation, the United States spent $2.8 trillion on healthcare. Everyone knows someone who is sick and this is because fast food joints…
The Vegetarian Myth, written by author Lierre Keith, tackles the ever-heated question: To eat animal products or not to eat animal products? I add the word “products,” after animal because the book should more properly be called the vegan myth. As a former vegan of over twenty years Keith comes from a place of experience, or as she might have it, a bitter experience. Feeling betrayed, in denial, and physically ill from her vegan years, she has made it her goal to reveal the truth and put to rest the Vegetarian notion that abstaining from animal products is the righteous path that is morally correct, will feed the hungry, and lead to greater nutrition. Chapter one, titled “Why This Book” will be the focus of this analysis because it gives an appropriate introduction to Keith’s…
Veganism is a diet that refrains from the usage and consumption of animal products. As an increasing number of people become aware of the harsh treatment of animals on factory farms as well as the environmental consequences an increasing number of health-conscious, ethically conscious, and environmentally conscious people are becoming vegans. Thus, the vegan diet’s increasing popularity means that it is easier than ever to become a vegan and to find meat and dairy alternatives that make the vegan diet easier for some people who still crave specific animal products like cheese, milk, and meat.…
It is no secret that many people are becoming vegan and changing their lifestyle drastically. From many celebrities to people in our neighborhood. What is veganism? Being vegan means someone does not condone animals being raped and slaughtered against their will. Also someone on a vegan lifestyle does not consume or use anything with animal products or bi-products. When being vegan someone must check all labels to see if something was tested on animals, has animals fat, or anything that harms or hurts an animal they cannot consume or use. The first step to being a vegan is it is pivotal to understand where our products came from and the malicious tasks it takes to get them.…
Another year passed and I went vegan, cutting off all forms of exploiting animals equally for ethical and environmental reasons. The difference between veganism and vegetarianism is vast. Vegetarianism only cuts out the consumption of meat, ignoring the damage of all animal agriculture in total. And avoiding animal products of every sort, as I have found, leads to a more peaceful and cleaner earth. Initially, vegans avoid a leading contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, wasting countless amounts of clean drinking water able to produce healthy foods, and aiding horrendous accounts of deforestation. A further gentle impact on earth calls for other things than just being vegan. Since being vegan, I've realized and acted on the importance of recycling and using reusable water bottles and containers. Also, recently I have stopped shopping at large brand name companies simply in that they aren't fair…
Sunaura and Andrew Taylor’s “Is It Possible to Be a Conscientious Meat Eater?” is an informative essay about the dirty side of the meat industry. They speak out of the physical abuse and poor living conditions endured by animals raised solely for the purpose of consumption. Because of the inhumane treatment towards animals, Taylor talks about a vegan solution and the many benefits associated with it. Animal cruelty is a sensitive topic that readers can easily be persuaded to either side. But, for the purpose of this essay, the reader can be swayed towards being a conscientious consumer. As mentioned already, animal rights and veganism will be discussed.…

Farming specifically for the production of meat and animal byproducts uses the most water and creates the most waste than any other major cause of climate change. According to Keegan Kuhn, “The meat and dairy industry uses approximately one third of the Earths fresh water and accounts for 55% of the United States water use.” (“Cowspiracy”). Animal agriculture is the unseen and unheard killer of our planet because in order to stop this atrocity one must make the lifestyle to go vegan and avoid animal products altogether. Eleanor Blau, of Auckland, New Zealand, did a comprehensive study off all vegan and vegetarian people in New Zealand and she discovered that many were vegan for the rights and treatment of animals and for its effects on our planet. According to Blau, “Some participants boycotted all products (including pet food, diapers, razors, batteries, shampoos etc.) manufactured by companies known to engage in animal testing and agriculture, even if the product itself was not directly related to animal use. Such participants preferred to support local animal-friendly businesses or companies that opposed animal testing.” (Balu…
How can one person can save 33,000 gallons of water a month? Some may say it is impossible, but the answer is simple - vegetarianism. A vegetarian is a person who does not eat meat of any kind. There are many reasons a person may decide to go vegetarian including ethical, health, or environmental. Vegetarians can be traced back into early history but, in today’s world, vegetarianism is on the rise as a concern for climate change is too. Major portions of the population are taking a stance against meat producing industries and changing their diets. Meat production is a huge contributor to pollution and climate change. Eating meat can also have a toll on one’s health. In order to change the course of rapid climate change, the population has…
Because I do know one thing about Vegans they are tough both in mind and spirit and bad enough they have to deal with Neanderthals waving hamburgers in their face or being looked upon like they are some weird cult like group. OMG A VEGAN!!! Grab the children and run for the hills, they care about…
Vegan is about finding practices that work better for us as a culture. Even if vegans have set out to change the world, most know that this is best done by positive education and honesty. The Western diet is almost entirely the opposite of the vegan diet and therefore it will be without question, a self-transformation for us. Proper education is the best way to make a difference. Education should start as soon as possible. Teaching others, especially at an early age, where food comes from can help them develop a liking and acceptance for healthy foods sooner. Our health education programs in public schools are lacking a more dominant role in the lives of students. Health education should rise amongst academic courses such as language and mathematics because knowing how to take care of our bodies is essential to living a life of well being. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provides public information about the importance of students, parents and schools connectedness for a positive outcome in individuals and society as a whole. If we educate students properly when it comes to health, we can minimize many risk behaviors. Sex, drugs, gang involvement,…
American vegetarianism has existed for more than 200 years and the American Vegan Society was founded February 1960, in Malaga New Jersey. Throughout recorded history there have been individuals and groups teaching the complete non-use of animal-source food and clothing. The practice of this lifestyle achieved varying degrees of success, and some failures. Veganism was defined and the first Vegan Society formed in 1944 in England. This society was to become the inspiration for others to follow.…
Being a vegan among others who aren’t is a Brobdingnagian influence in itself. Most are curious about this foreign, mysterious topic which leads to many asking questions about it. That alone is one of the biggest ways to promote Veganism, by simply providing answers to those who are intrigued by it. Giving them a little insight and enlightening those around you with knowledge is the most effective way to reach out to people. It's best whenever others ask questions first and the reason I say this is because they will be more willing to listen giving you the opportunity to get your point across better, educating that individual about Veganism in the process. People learn most this way since they’ll be more open minded opposed to those who you just cram information to. It tends to peak their interest which seems to help their brain absorb information better so whenever I'm speaking out…
At first he used it to mean "non-dairy vegetarian", but from 1951 the society defined it as "the doctrine that man should live without exploiting animals".[18] Interest in veganism increased in the 2010s. More vegan stores opened, and vegan options became increasingly available in supermarkets and restaurants in many…
