Introduction
1. Sir Winston Churchill is one of the greatest leaders of 20th century. He played the role of an excellent commander as British Prime Minister and led his nation with great resolve, courage and perseverance to victory in World War II. He as a political leader and commander had excellent communication skills, courageous attitude in the face of difficult circumstances, ability to motivate masses and strategic foresight. He had a multi faceted personality as he simultaneously possessed the traits of a soldier, a politician, a commander, an orator, an author and above all an inspiring leader.

2. Winston Churchill was born on 30 November, 1874[1], at Blenheim Palace in an aristocratic family. His father, Lord Randolph Churchill was himself a Member of Parliament[2]. It was apparent from his school days that he was very intelligent. He was a prolific reader and had excellent memory. The problem was lack of discipline and interest in school[3].

Another quality which made him one the successful commander was his courage, which remained the corner stone of his personality irrespective of the problem or issue confronting him throughout his military as well as political career.
