George Washington had led an army of Americans from roots that stemmed ubiquitously throughout, for whom most of which had no training and experience on the battleground. As the year was coming to the end George understood the real power of the British, who had chased him from New York when George was about to cross the Delaware River and capture Philadelphia, setting it as the midpoint of the revolution. Patrick Henry’s argument on declaring independence on Great Britain and going to war was an inspiring speech that has shined a new light on the subject of whether to declare independence or stay loyal to a country that has done us more harm than good and has ultimately led me to become a rebel. I have become a rebel for two main reasons, our petitions that they have not noticed were an attempt at peace and the mistreatment from the last ten years. To start, petitions had not been productive whatsoever. When Britain had done something that had made us miserable, we decided to meet in the middle and make peace with Britain though petitions. Unfortunately Britain had ignored and disregarded us and our petitions, and instead, had sent us harm and…

If I was a soldier in the Continental Army and the conditions were the same, I would re-enlist. I would stay in Washington’s army because many of the soldiers became ill, died, or deserted, leaving him with less and less number of soldiers. According to the chart in Document A, there were 8,000 soldiers in February 1778 and 3,989 of them died of illness. Since his army was slowly diminishing,…

The main point of the narrative by Joseph Plumb Martin is to show the Revolutionary War through the eyes of the people who are the lowest in the militaries chain of command, the private soldier. Martin was an average soldier who described the hardships he and his fellow soldiers went through. The soldiers were malnourished and not properly clothed for the weather. Many didn’t have shoes, Martin made moccasins out of leather and tied them around his feet so they wouldn’t bleed from the cold. Martin states, “we had nothing to eat for two or three days previous, except what the trees of the field and forest afforded us.”(124) This quote shows that even though they were expected to fight for their country, they were essentially left to fend for…

Howard Zinn’s argument on the nature of the American War for Independence was the war for independence was not a social revolution. Instead, he argues the colonial elite used the war for their own personal gain in power and status. The wealthy and powerful found a strategy to maintain and even increase their social and political status by leading the war against England and the courtiers associated with England.…

The colonists were upset because of Britain’s awful rule, so they decided to fight back. Later on, when the Acts were made, the colonists got even more angry with Britain’s tight control. When the Declaration of Independence was created in 1776, I was really excited, but I knew I would have to sign up for war. General Washington led the troops to set up our winter camp, Valley Forge. Valley Forge is located 18 miles outside of Philadelphia, where the winter camps for our Army was located. Our huts were of very low quality, because twelve soldiers slept on a pile of straw on the floor in one hut. We ran into a problem; it was too cold outside to have a chimney, but the forts soon began to be filled with smoke. Back at home, a lot of the ladies, including my sister, had “scarlet fever”, the fascination of the British and their red…

When you go camping on a weekend trip, you never realize how many luxuries you brought with you such as food, water, clothing, and shelter. Once you run out of everything, no more food, clothes are all torn and dirty, you head out and leave, right? Well that’s not the story in the year 1776, when General George Washington was leading the rebel army into the Revolutionary War. He and his inexperienced militia set up a winter camp at a place called Valley Forge in Pennsylvania, but just a few miles away was General Howe who was in charge of the British army in Philadelphia. While the British army is healthy and warm, the rebel army is freezing to death with no clothing and very little food. Most of the men have only enlisted for six to nine months. The only thing is, a question remains; should I reenlist? For the sake of my well being and health, I shall not reenlist due to three main reasons; illness, lack of basic needs, and the difficulties I’ll face if I reenlist.…

A hot summer afternoon, it is the 3rd of July. The First Continental Congress is sitting in Philadelphia. All the men are wearing the traditional elizabethan garb, wool from head to toe. The men are debating wether or not to declare independence from Great Britain. The side that wanted to be independent had just said their closing arguments, and President of the Congress John Hancock was getting rather hot. He truncated the debate and made the delegates vote then. The pro-freedom side won handily (Glencoe). Without that need to get out of this sweat dripping clothes, we may have never found out that all men are created equal, the U.S.A may have never been the U.S.A. at all, we might still be speaking the queens english if not for Hancock’s heavy clothes…

War is hard, but not a hardship worth quitting for. In December 1777-1778, General George Washington made his winter camp at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. The British army under General Howe was only a few miles away in Philadelphia. Washington now has a problem because many of his men have signed up to fight for only nine months. Their terms are now coming to an end. After thinking long and hard I am deciding to reenlist for three main causes, lack of soliders due to illness, loyalty to my country, and belief in winning for pride.…

I believe that a patriot is someone who loves and does good for there country. They don't have to fight in any battles or save any lives all they have to do is love their country. I have learned about many patriots this year and the many years i've been at school but the first person i think about when someone says patriot is Harriet Tubman she did it all. She made a really big impact on the fight against slavery. Harriet had so many opportunities to live her life as a slave without putting her life in danger but she refused to not do anything about it and she took action. Most women in her day wouldn't even dare pulling any stunts like she did. Even though she knew the risks of helping runaway slaves she continued to do it. She was so good at helping runaway slaves escape on the underground railroad that she had a bounty on her head.…
