Chapter 13/14 Essay What makes a good president? The United States has had many presidential leaders since the late 1700s. Many had good qualities and some had bad qualities. However, the citizens prefer the great qualities in a president. An ideal president is a responsible, presentable, influential, relatable, experienced leader, who has a clear vision and plan to benefit the country. These qualities has been shown through past presidents, including Ronald Reagan. There are presidents that have not shown the qualities needed to be a successful president, like George W. Bush. To be a great leader, the president has to be responsible. Responsibility is important because the duty of a president is to be accountable for the United States. For example, the 15th president, George W. Bush was not an ideal president. First of all, George W. Bush did not always have the best speeches. He is known for making mistakes in his speeches. Also, he was not responsible because he did not consider the outcome of the Iraq War, since he has the power to declare war. He did not have a clear vision of the possibilities of our soldiers and the other aspects of war. (PBS) Also, he was not really relatable to the majority of the United States. Also, his controversy with Kyoto Protocol only benefited the wealthy, which shows that Bush is not relatable to the middle class and lower. He had a wealthy childhood. His father was a politician and his family got fortune in the oil business. However, he overthrew Sudaam Hussain, raised money to fight HIV/AIDS, passed tax-cut bills, and passed the Medicare prescription drug coverage program for the elderly.
