Initially I looked into starting college because of my younger sister. She has been a student at SNHU for almost a year. Right after she started she began do have doubts about whether or not she could finish a degree or not. I encouraged her in every way I could think of but nothing really helped until I enrolled in SNHU. She was so proud that she was able to help out her big brother with things that she had been through and this made her confidence soar. The second reason was my bucket list. I have been fortunate to be in the right place at the right time to have a great career. I have made plenty of money and achieved almost all my goals but a college degree so I figured that now would
be a great time. There is no third thing that motivated me to start college but after starting I found something that will keep me going right to the finish line. Two years ago I took my sisters child away from her for some very compelling reasons. Of course I had no idea what I was getting into raising a child. One of the biggest stumbling blocks we have come across is education. My nephew had never taken education seriously and school was always a second priority. Trying to overcome 10 years of this and emphasize the importance of education was making me nuts. My nephew saw how successful I am and how comfortable we are and assumed that he would be able to do the same thing with very little effort. One day just after I started school my nephew came to me and asked what I was doing. I showed him my homework and he could hardly believe his eyes. I explained to him that everything I ever said about an education being important was true and that I was going to prove it even though I didn’t need to. His response was that if his aunt and uncle were both going to college that he was going to go as well. He went to his swim coach and found out where some of the other kids were going to school because he heard that they could get a two year degree along with their high school diploma. He begged me to go to the school and is now enrolled there and is loving education like never before. I have never been more proud of him. I will complete my degree about the same time he completes high school and his degree and we all even sit down together to do homework. Above everything else, this makes starting and finishing college the best thing I have ever done.
