What Was The Difference Between North And South Slavery
The major difference between north and south was on the ideal of slavery (free labor vs. slave labor). Most slaves on the south worked for land-cultivating cotton; tobacco, sugar, and rice because southern economy mainly depended on agriculture. Most slaves lived on large farms or small plantations and their behaviors and movements were restricted. Slaveholders also tried to keep slaves from learning to read and write. Slaveholders kept them divided so that it’s less likely for them to organize against their masters. However, in August of 1831, Nat Turner rose up in armed rebellion, but the state eventually captured and executed the rebels.

Slavery brought a huge diversity among people in all of the country. Both the North and Southern colonies did really depend on slavery for financial purposes, but reacted to slavery in different ways. The North was a land of acceptance and tried to give slaves and African American more liberties and as well the respect these people should be given because at the end of the day slaves are just like any other human being, people with feelings, emotions and a beating heart. Slaves faced so much pain if it was the physical marks given by cruel slave owners or the feeling of a broken heart because these people were split from families and taken forcefully from their homes and shipped off across the Atlantic Ocean on unhumanitarian…

The North and the South The North and South had similarities and differences in the 1800’s, but can the differences drive them to a civil war? Women were mad about having so little rights, slavery was being questioned, and the political parties couldn’t seem to agree. Women in the United States had little rights, but women in the North had more, but not where it really counted. In the North, women had ownership of their wages and property (Holt, pg. 427). While the Old Testament verse Leviticus 25:44-46 was crucial in the biblical slavery debates, other verses were equally significant. A notable example being Exodus 21:20 which states “When a slave owner strikes a male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies immediately, the owner shall be punished.” Based on this verse southern proponents of slavery argued that the Bible’s acceptance of slavery was a given. In essence, if the Bible provided laws which regulated and allowed for the punishment of slaves by masters, then how could one deny that the Bible sanctioned slavery? In response to this assertion, abolitionists argued that this law actually showed that southerners were not justified in using the Bible as a rationalization for the…
