Many travelers walked since their wagon was over packed. At night, they would form a circle of wagons to keep farm animals in. After a while, the trail started to get more trash. Pioneers would dispose supplies they had used or didn’t need to get more room on the wagon. Other stuff left behind was axles, wheels, and some wagons. You could still see some today. The Oregon Trail was the only possible way that people could travel west. It was created to be traveled by everyone. Other routes were too hard to navigate and could not be traveled by everyone. They were motivated by stories of gold farmland. They wanted to go westbound due to the difficult economy times that the east was going through. They wanted their future family to have a better life. Others wanted to leave the crowded east and settle in a least crowded west. The east didn’t have fertile land like the west; the west had fertile land perfect for farming which was what many farmer were looking for. Without any good farmland, the farmers were not able to make money. They were basically forced to move out west since they weren’t making enough money and couldn’t afford to live in the east. So they decided moving out west to have a better life. Others were intrigued by the stories they would hear about the west. Relative that had already traveled west would send letters back and would tell them how great the west was and would persuade them to move out west. This motivated many families to make the decision that they were moving out west. Over 500,000 people used the Oregon Trail. Manifest destiny is also what allowed people to move out west. Americans believed they had they right to have the country from coast to coast. Gold farmland is what also motivated more people. Many pioneers and settlers knew that if they could get their hands on gold, they could make a lot of money. They had high hope of becoming rich. If they would have gold farmland, they knew they could possibly live off of that. The
