Whe When A Sheep Chapter Summary
Plot Summary: One morning, an eight-year old farm girl Fern discovers that her father John Arable intends to kill a runt baby piglet. Fern persuades her father to save its life and let her nurse the baby piglet. She raises him up on a bottle and takes him for walks for several months, she also gives him a name – Wilbur. When Wilbur is old and strong enough, Mr. Arable sends a pig to Fern’s uncle - Mr. Zukerman who allows Fern to visit Wilbur at the farm any time she wants. At Zukerman’s farm Wilbur feels lonely and misses Fern. None of the animals seem to be interested in his company and none of them want to play with Wilbur. Eventually, Wilbur hears a calm, soothing voice telling him that she will be his friend. The next morning, Wilbur finds out that his mysterious friend is Charlotte A. Cavatica, a spider whose web stretches above the entrance of the barn. At first, Wilbur is horrified by a cruel nature of a spider, soon those two become dear friends. …show more content…
Zukerman will slaughter Wilbur to eat him for Christmas dinner, Wilbur begins to panic. Charlotte asks him to calm down and promises to devise a plan that will save Wilbur’s life. She spins messages in her web describing and praising Wilbur, the first being “Some pig”. Mr. Zukerman and townspeople are astonished when they see the message. Charlotte continuous spinning miraculous words such as “Terrific” and “Radiant” with the help of a rat Templeton, who scours the dump for slips of paper that she can use to copy the words. Wilbur becomes famous and Mr. Zukerman decides to enter him into the competition at the county fair. With Charlotte and Templeton’s assistance Wilbur goes to the fair and wins a special award. Charlotte spins the last message “Humble” that draws crowds of people and ensures that Wilbur will not be
