‘What was Mary’s life like before she became the mother of Jesus?’
Before Mary conceived Jesus she was already completely devoted to God even as a child. She lived in a small house with her family working just like every other young girl in her time. There …show more content…
was nothing special or unique about her life she lived just like everyone else did at the time. The people in Nazareth had a big influence on Mary as they had a strong Jewish faith which meant Mary learnt from them about the importance of god and having faith. Mary’s faith was very strong yet in somewhere like Nazareth which was extremely religious her faith hardly stood out at all. As a result of being in a society where men were considered to be more important than woman Mary was perceived as only a mother and a wife nothing else. When she was about 15, Mary's parents made plans for her to be married which was expected in Mary’s time. Her parents chose a man named Joseph who was a carpenter to be her husband. After the engagement took place Mary went home to wait a year before she went to live with Joseph as his wife. When the Angel Gabriel came to her and told her she would be conceiving the son of Christ although she questioned at first how it was possible considering she was a virgin she accepted this task that was given her with determination and pride. Maybe it was this determination and pride that God saw in Mary making her the chosen one to conceive Jesus Christ.
‘What were the qualities Mary possessed?’
Mary had many wonderful qualities that made her become such a role model to people today.
Perhaps it’s because of these wonderful qualities that God chose Mary to be the mother of Jesus. Mary was a compassionate person full of strength and faith. Her faith in God was tested when the angel Gabriel came to her telling her she would carry the son of Christ, Jesus. Instead of doubting Gabriel she believed him and understood the message he was preaching and accepted her task with pride and determination knowing that God had a special plan for her. Even In a situation when Joseph the man she loved could leave her and she could be seen as an adulteress Mary not once lessened her faith and devotion to God. Despite how young she was she trusted him and readied herself for the important role she would play. Most women at the time would not have shown this much trust and faith in God and would have thought what Gabriel was saying was ridiculous not believing in the message the way Mary did. Perhaps it is because of her strong faith and willingness to listen to others that made God certain Mary was the right choice to be the mother of Jesus Christ. Mary possessed many strengths but one of the most valuable ones was her ability to persevere. She went through many challenges in her life the biggest being when she had to witness her son being crucified. However throughout all these struggles she never lost sight of her faith in God. She used her complete trust in the lord and her strength to overcome all the obstacles in her life. When something bad occurred in her life Mary continued on knowing it was all part of God’s plan. No matter what happened she stood by God and remained faithful to him even after Jesus’ death. Mary was content with being a servant of the lord and took the responsibility of raising the messiah with dignity and
enthusiasm.
Collectively there is no one reason as to why Mary was chosen to be the mother of Jesus it can be assumed that Mary’s faithfulness to god and her kind willed nature would have definitely been a factor to God choosing her to be the mother of Jesus. God knew that because of her willingness to believe she would willingly serve him and follow whatever decision he would make. To God someone like Mary who was young and poor would have seemed innocent and trustworthy knowing she wouldn’t be distracted with having goods and would instead focus on the world and what Gods greater purpose was in life. This would benefit God because it would have meant that she would stay faithful to him and raise Jesus to the best of her ability. Those many qualities Mary possessed such as of holiness, faith and humbleness is shown throughout her life and the way she treated others. God knew that Mary was a woman of rare strength and obedience, perhaps this is why she, out of all the others was chosen to serve god in one of the most important and crucial callings ever given to a human being.
