Tree and Stella were similar in a way that they were both insensitive towards Rosa. Especially, when it came to the letter Dr. Tree wrote to Rosa. For instance, “Consider also the special word they used: survivor… As long they didn’t have to say human being” (36). Rosa felt as if the letter was non-human. She didn’t understand why people always had to call them survivors instead of human beings. Majority of the Jew survivors might have a similar past but at the end of the day they were just like everyone else. Rosa continues to say, “It used to be refugee, but by now there was no such creature, no more refugees, only survivors” (36). One might not find it insensitive to call someone a survivor, but Rosa was the one who went through that traumatic experience. However, Stella was insensitive right from the beginning almost as if she became a product of her surrounding by her very own environment just being in the Nazi death camp. Rosa says, “Stella, my angel my dear one, a devil climbs into you and ties up your soul and you don’t even know it” (14). Rosa didn’t understand how Stella could just back on her feet and move one with her life and act like nothing ever happen. Stella is in fact insensitive when she expects Rosa to move on with her life just like she did. Rosa is forever scarred for what happened to her daughter and the horrible experience in the Nazi death camp. One can’t expect for someone just to forget his or her past when it was such an awful and traumatic
