Who Is Ingrid Betancourt's Code Of Conduct?
Ingrid Betancourt was a Columbian politician and presidential candidate until she was kidnapped and held hostage by FARC guerrillas for six years before getting rescue by the Columbian military. Her story is full of horror and bravery as she held out against her abductors for years and never gave up the hope that she will be rescued one day. If Mrs. Betancourt were a soldier in the United States Army, the articles of the Code of Conduct that she kept faith with would be Articles II, III, and IV. The second article of the Code of Conduct states that, “I will never surrender of my own free will” (Robert K. Ruhl, 2018). And we had to carry out all these preparations in total secrecy.” (Ingrid Betancourt, April 2017) This is an example that you must never give up hope in escaping from the enemy, as hope will help you in the end. Mrs. Betancourt followed Article IV of the Military Code of Conduct by making herself a role model for the other hostages with her. She described the guerrilla’s system as a, “technique to break us, to defeat us, to divide us.” (Ingrid Betancourt, April 2017) It is important to resist this brutal system of control, as “Strong leadership is essential to

“Political time” differs from that of ordinary time in the amount of time it takes to reach an end result. As ordinary time may take anywhere from a few days to several years, “political time” refers to the amount of time it takes to achieve the ultimate goal of a group or organization. In the case of the resistance fighters in Vietnam, their willpower came from the motivation to continue fighting for a higher cause. Their ability to continue to move forward for almost thirty years led the subordinates to push through any resistance that opposed their greater cause. The leadership roles also play a crucial role in the motivation of subordinates. Without any supporting motives, subordinates will lose sight of the ultimate goal and soon enough stray away from the end result that once instilled them to continue the fight. As stated by the revolutionary leader and president of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh, “The Vietnamese people deeply love independence, freedom and peace. But in the face of United States aggression they have risen up, united as one man”.…

“This publication was the fourth of a series on the Army's Professional Military Ethics (PME) that the Army Chief of Staff, General George Casey, started in 2009. General Casey encouraged the Army to think critically about our PME and promote dialog at all levels as we deepen our understanding of what this time-honored source of strength means to the profession today. In his book, Pfaff (2011) explores the cultural values, challenges the Army faces, in a time of persistent irregular conflicts. Pfaff argues that the challenges come from the nature of the conflict. The guerrilla soldiers change the nature of war from forcing your will on your enemy to convincing the enemy to accept your position.” (Pfaff,…

This exemplifies how soldiers’ appearances start to exceed the importance of their achievements .…

Leon was captured by police officers but was not with Gachelin (6). Concerned that Gachelin would be murdered if it were known that Leon had been captured, the police officers made a radical decision. To find where the accomplice was holding Gachelin they beat the information out of him (6).
