“Pig the Fibber” is part of a series of “Pig the Pug” written and illustrated by Australian author, Aaron Blabey published in 2015. In this humourous picture book, the main character, Pig the pug, behaves badly and tells fibs. His loyal ‘long’ suffering friend, Trevor, a sausage dog is blamed for Pig’s lies and misconduct. This story has a moral and is a good lesson for young readers, as in the end all the bad behaviour catches up with Pig. The illustration on the front cover draws the reader in with a simple illustration of a defiant looking Pug with mischievous exaggerated bulging eyes and red crayon nonchalantly resting on his bottom lip. The text “Pig the Pug” in black print has been altered by Pig and his red crayon he has crossed out…

I believe that Art Spiegelman chose to depict his characters as mice, cats, pigs and the like because it was symbolic of the position of power at the time of the Holocaust. For example, the Jews are represented as mice. I believe that this is symbolic of the fact that the Jews, like mice, were being hunted and eradicated. Additionally, they were forced to live like mice by hiding and scavenging for food. The Nazis are depicted as cats, I believe, to represent that they were the “hunters”, chasing and killing the Jews. Americans are portrayed as dogs because, in this instance, they drove away the Germans or, the cats. Other characters were represented as animals in this story, as well. For example, the Polish were drawn as pigs and the…

The primary issue that Old Major has with the principle of working for man is that the animals do the work for no benefit, while Mr. Jones lives a life of excess. Old major is disgruntled by the fact that the man barks orders at his animals, and the animals remain malnourished and neglected even though they do the bulk of the man’s work. Soon after Napoleon and Snowball seize control of Animal Farm, as the animals work tenaciously in the fields, the pigs “…did not actually work, but directed and supervised the others” (50). The pigs’ integrity continues to decline as the story unfolds; the reader sees that they become more akin to the parasitic man which they had sought to be liberated from than diligent leaders they portrayed themselves to be. The pigs, who have taken the place of man at the farm, now begin to reap the benefits of the other animals’ work.…

When Lennie kills the farm owner’s wife and suffers the consequences, the rest of the farm workers realize that they should think before their actions. For instance, a poem written by Minimus praises the “full belly twice a day [and] clean straw to roll upon” that the animals have gained through the “Friend of Fatherless... Comrade Napoleon!” (100) Due to their mindless obedience toward Napoleon’s pigs, the animals believe they are receiving great amounts of food and bountiful sleep as said by the poem. On the contrary, the reader can assume that the farm animals devour minimal amount of rations and have to sleep less and work more. Upon hearing the animals sing Beasts of England, Squealer arrives to announce that the song represented “the Rebellion...[and their] longing for a better society,” and that since the society of the farm has finally been established, “clearly this song has no purpose” (96). Squealer’s opinion about the circumstances of Animal Farm appears to concern only the prosperity of the pigs, for the animals they rule over live in an inferno. As of result, Squealer’s words demonstrate the self-absorbed attitude prominent in the pigs, also pertaining to Stalin’s cult of personality. To make matters worse for the animals, “all the rations were reduced” except for those of the pigs and the dogs, because “a too rigid equality in rations...would [contradict] with the principles of Animalism” (115). Animalism preaches the equality of all the animals, whereas Squealer, under Napoleon’s orders, tells the animals that a similarity in all the animals’ rations would contradict such ideals. Napoleon once again displays the selfishness of the pigs, which in turn parodies Stalin’s drastic reduction of homes, farmland, and food for the farmers and workers. Irony in Animal Farm emphasizes the criticism of Russia and reveals the corruption present in the…

Satire is a form of irony that mocks and criticizes a topic. In Animal Farm, the topic is the Russian Revolution, and it ridicules Communism and its principles. Satire uses fictional characters to signify and represent real people. Satire also makes the characters seem foolish to exaggerated the real people who are being mocked. In Animal Farm, the characters who are mocked are the “unimportant characters” who only go along with what Squealer says. These “unimportant characters” represent the people of Russia who wanted a revolution but didn’t know what to do after that. They are shown as unintelligent animals who couldn’t even know the alphabet by heart. Squealer was a manipulative pig who was able to convince the animals of blatant lies and misinformation. Squealer was the communist’s source of propaganda to lie to the people. Another character that was made fun of, being Stalin, represented by Napoleon. He was portrayed as a cruel, mean, and a dishonest person who only cared for his own…

In the tale the pig’s convince the others animals to act and think a certain way as a result of the propaganda that occurs through the entirety of the tale. Old Major brings together the animals and protests the human leadership the animals are under. The pigs take advantage of Old Major’s death and use his speech as the first building block in their series of propaganda. The Pigs then use the song “Beasts of England” their rally cry and later destroy this ritual because it is no longer necessary. Squealer successfully uses his body language to put on a performance that convinces the animals to act in favor of the pigs. The first major piece of propaganda to be implemented is the commandments written by the pigs, which are eventually all broken. The ideas of Old Major are simplified once again with a motto the pigs create which moves the animals away from the desired results of the revolution. Napoleon then drives Snowball off of the farm and turns him into a scapegoat. After this event takes place Napoleon is able to establish himself as a heroic leader. The motto the sheep’s chant is used to drown out any chance of protest. The donkey Benjamin notices afterwards one of the commandments on the wall has been changed. Life on the farm continues in the same terrible way with no sign of hope for the animals. The strong presence of deliberate tactics to assist a leader…
