Within my Holocaust photograph, the image shows a …show more content…
train cart surrounded by the bodies of dead Jewish men, women, and children. All were pale, malnourished, and withered free of life. Others in the picture also included a few German soldiers and a few non-Jewish people looking at the scene. This image makes me extremely sad and feel so much gloom for these Jewish casualties. The abuse that they faced is unbearable to look at. No one, especially innocent people, should ever have to face these types of circumstances.
As you can see in the image, the train plays an important aspect in the Holocaust. Holocaust trains were trains that were used for mass transportation. One of the first uses of the Holocaust trains was to collect and transport Jews from their “homes.” (ghettos that they were forced into) The trains were used to carry items back and forth from concentration camp to camp, but were mainly used for the deportation of the Jewish prisoners. An average deportation lasted around 4 hours long. Jews were packed into the carts so tightly as if they were farm cattle therefore, a lack of air and space caused much discomfort to those inside. The Holocaust trains often stood as an idle of confusion and fear to many Jewish people. If getting onto the train as a prisoner, you would go to 1 of 3 places: a concentration camp, a labor site, or an execution camp. This means there is a huge chance of dying once exiting the cart doors. When I view this image, I feel as if the train has just arrived to an execution camp due to the massive amount of dead bodies lying in piles. I also believe there is more fear-filled prisoners within the train cart, preparing to exit, and questioning many things about death. I can only imagine what is going through the minds of every prisoner inside the train.
The Holocaust picture also explains how the German soldiers felt about the prisoners.
The main soldier in this picture has a very serine face as he looks at the piles of bodies. Not a care in the world is within his mind. The soldier shows no emotion towards the large pile of death. During the Holocaust, the German soldiers were very harsh towards the prisoners. The prisoners were seized and forced to work through all conditions of blood, sweat, and tears no matter how hard the challenge was. The soldiers frequently also got away with numerous accounts of abuse towards the prisoners, such as harassment and assault. The soldiers were ruthless and eager for the kill. In the book “Night,” by Ellie Wiesel, the German soldiers were cruel. Punishments such as beatings, whippings, continuous running, and public hangings were just some of the abuse and torture that was experienced. This is how the soldiers were taught to react towards the prisoners. “Jewish blood was equivalent to dirty blood.” No cares or mercy was
given.
In this extreme and heart-less era, the bodies of the fallen Jews were given absolutely no respect, as you can tell from the image. Sanitation played a huge contribution to the death rates. The lying dead bodies lead to many many diseases that later caused health issues and even death for others inside the camp. After execution or death from health-related reasons, the torture ended for those who spent what seems like a life time within the camps. Bodies were basically left where they lie. Numerous amounts of other bodies were simply dumped into burial holes. These facts make you wonder if the lost and terrified souls of the victims are in peace, or trapped within the grounds of their destruction. Even in today’s date, you can visit the concentration camps and visibly see the ashes and bone particles from within the soil. Though the running and function of the Jewish concentration camps are no longer in order, it is still very sad and heart-wrenching to still visualize and realize what the Jewish people went through.
Overall, I feel that this image is very emotional and factual to everything that had occurred during the Holocaust dates. The attemption to realize and feel for one’s self what all the Jewish prisoners is unbearable. Nothing good came from these camps at all. It is still hard for me to wrap my mind around how one could be so evil and cause so much destruction within the world. (Adolf Hitler) This global brainwash was heard from all around the world. I hope those who have passed on from within the camps have found peace and love within their hearts. I hope those who are survivors from the time period are proud of themselves because they deserve every bit of praise they can possibly get. No amount of love to the survivors of the Holocaust will ever be enough compared to the undeserving punishments they had faced. They all should praise because their nightmare is over.
