Toothed whales like belugas are part of the smaller whale family but very few of the toothed whales even come close the smallest baleen whale.
Unlike baleen whales, toothed whales diets consist of penguin, shark, seals, and sea lions. These whale contribute to predator control across the globe various species of sharks, fish, and sometimes other whales. But the things that make these whales special is their features like how the orca has uncanny vision in the water, or how the narwhal has a horn that sticks straight out of its head, and how the beluga can use echolocation like a bat in the water. But still whales are killed because for the items that their bodies produce. And all of this comes from commercial
whaling.
Whaling is hunting whales for primarily for meat, oil, and blubber. The earliest form of whale hunting dates back to 3000 B.C. and from there, there has been various coastal communities with long histories of whaling. Even today countries like Japan and norway have found loopholes in whaling law to use whaling for “scientific whaling’’. Because of whales massive size and few predators they can efficiently move carbon from the ocean surface to the deep sea, this is possible through the whale's carcass. When a whale dies or dives to the lower regions of the sea they transport carbon they've collected to into the deep sea. But because of the whales dwindling population less carbon is being removed and more is going into climate thus creating climate problems across the globe. Overall whales are an important part of the earth ecosystems and climate. From carbon control to krill population sizing, whales are making a difference in a good way.
