Why Child Soldiers Need To Be Saved
Child Soldiers Need To Be Saved

Imagine being being taken away from your family and everything you have ever known to become a soldier. You see people get killed everyday people force you to take drugs to make your performance better you are treated like an animal and you are forced to fight. Oh yeah and you are a child maybe as young as 11 years old. Child soldiers are the victims and this needs to stop! My first reason this selfish horrible crime should stop is that the children are sometimes forcibly recruited. Debatewise.com says that “Most children are forcibly recruited and even when they enlist they may not have thought carefully about their decision or made an informed choice”. ("Child Soldiers, Prosecution").
That being said

My first piece of evidence is there still is violence after they got to the hospital. Ishmael retells his story when he does he mentions that “The rebel boys drew out the few bayonets they had in their shorts and rushed toward us. It was war all over again. Perhaps the naïve men who had taken us to the center thought that removing us from the war would lessen our hatred for the R.U.F..” (Beah)This Proves that being a child soldier does really change you. My second reason is that they still are addicted to drugs. Ishmael said that “I craved cocaine and marijuana so badly that I would roll a plain sheet of paper and smoke it. Sometimes I searched the pockets of my army shorts, which I still wore, for crumbs of marijuana or cocaine. We broke into the mini hospital and stole some painkillers — white tablets and off-white — and red and yellow capsules. We emptied the capsules, ground the tablets and mixed them together. But the mixture didn’t give us the effect we wanted.” (Beah)That being said people do really get addicted to drugs and it will always leave a permanent scar on you. It could very well affect your future. Drugs are hurtful to anyone anywhere and it is very hard to fix. These poor children are exposed to it at such a young age that it’s hard to imagine there life without drugs after. From the time they are child soldiers from the time they are not anymore feels like a lifetime. My final piece of evidence is the kids have trust issues why after the damage has already been done. Ismael also said in the article that “After that, whenever Esther would see me around, she’d smile and ask me how I was doing. At first I detested her intrusions.” (Beah)Which he is clearly showing trust issues. If a normal child that has been raised fair and well has trust issues imagine what a kid going through the pain and suffering these kids are going through. Of

In the memoir, Ishmael describes how children and teenagers were turned into soldiers. Young kids were recruited to be soldiers by both the rebels and the government army. The rebels would go to villages and destroy everything, they would spare kids that were Ishmael’s age because they wanted to recruit them to fight in the war. The rebels tended to line the boys up then select the ones that seemed to be the toughest to them. Ishmael, Junior, and his friends were stopped by rebels at a village and he was selected. Luckily there were shots that were heard by the rebels and Ishmael and his friends escaped becoming soldiers for the time being.…

Thy will be shot or killed but also, they depend on of the commander for food, money, drugs and alcohol. They become addicted and stay to be provided for. It’s a big family, for some of them, they are given a roof over their head that some children there have never had.”Most children are forcibly recruited and even when they enlist they may not have thought carefully about their decision or made an informed choice.”(Child Soldiers, Prosecution, page 11). Some had just witnessed their families death and the adult soldiers take advantage of them. They also think differently than adults their minds are not fully developed until age 22. They should have amnesty because they were drugged and many were forced to do their act. Also, not all fully understood what was happening because they process information differently because they are children.…

You sit in a trench and wait for your orders to come. You look left and right to see your comrades sitting with you, but they aren’t grown men and women, they are children. Your mind is unsteady and lightheaded from the drugs you were given. When you look out of the trench you see children only eight years of age marching into a village and burning everything down to a smoldering ash. Some children do it for protection others doing it for their religion. Hundreds of lives were taken when the village burned down, and it was all at the hands of children. Child soldiers have been in existence for years. People believe that child soldiers should be punished for their crimes and put into jail, but why? Why would you put a little one in jail when they were told what they were doing was right? These minors have not been given the proper chance to live a life to the fullest of their potential.…

While it may be very true that most average children know their actions, what if those children were not in a ‘normal’ state of mind? Child soldiers were drugged, beat, threatened, and tricked into feeling and thinking nothing except kill, kill, kill. Not only that with all this is emotional and physical abuse, if a child is emotionally and physically abused they tend not to feel anymore, and if they cause a crime then it shouldn’t be their fault, it should be the people who turned them into that, the people who manipulated them with drugs and violence into thinking that's okay. If the UN can give amnesty to the children who have been deprived of their childhood, and jail the people who caused it. That will show the commander what happens to children who they force to fight what…

Once more, the three main icons key to helping child soldiers is we firstly need to be considerate and not let them wander off freely. Secondly, research must be done to find out how they feel about killing and what's going on around them. Are the passionate about such events, or do they despise them. And finally we must clarify what kind of state they’re in. Meaning the kind of schools in which they have been taught in. Are they being yelled at by a general, or simply being taught in a school. Crucial evidence may lead to more investigations and might someday end child…

throughout the world. It is estimated that there are as many if not more than 300,000 child soldiers around the world. Since 2001 and as of 2008, child soldiers have participated in 21 on-going or recent armed conflicts in almost every region of the world. Ranging from ages of 8 to 15, child soldiers are raped, abused, and sometimes even sent on suicide missions if they haven't died from the hardship put on a child in the military. 40% of child soldiers are recruited by force and many times forced to kill their family so that they don't have anything to come back to if they escape from the military. Although many countries still practice the recruiting of children, I believe stopping this practice will cause benefits to society, child soldiers lives, and quality of the protection of the country that stops this practice.…

But that is only the beginning of this problem and it could get worse. Many young children find themselves in the army for various reasons. They commit many acts that are deemed as crimes. Some people think that they should be pardoned and some think otherwise. Even if people think that child soldiers should not receive amnesty, the child soldiers must be given amnesty because they are not responsible for their actions, they do not always have a choice, and because they have suffered a lot of pain and need help.…

In 2010, there were over 200,000 children fighting in wars. 20% of those kids, were a part of government groups. After the war, the government turned around and said those kids need to be prosecuted. How would you feel if you were forced to fight and traumatized for life, then have to go on trial for something you never wanted to do in the first place? According to the United Nations along with other human rights groups, a child soldier is considered a child who is 18 years or younger fighting on the front line (Child Recruitment pg.1). Child soldiers are found all over the world except for North America. If these children ever get out of war, some may have to get prosecuted for the things they did while completely brainwashed. That is unfair considering most were forced into this terrible matter. Once the child soldiers get out of the situation they are in, they should be sent to rehabilitation centers to…
