College is important to me as it is required for me to achieve the two careers that I am most interested in. I know that it will be challenging as high school was also. With the support systems of my parents, grandparents and siblings, mentors and friends I know I will be successful. When I began the journey of preschool I was always eager to learn. I would ask the question “why “a lot. Sometimes my mom would say, “I don’t know but let’s look it up”. Honestly, I knew that she knew the answer but this was her way of challenging me to find the answer. Mom would often say “You cannot take me to class with you when it is test time so you need to learn the information and have it in your hard drive for future reference”. This has proven to be the truth and I now appreciate that she taught me how to think for myself. I plan to use all of the resources needed to complete my degree. My mom shared how she would organize her binder with the course requirements as the first page. She would place it in a sheet protector sleeve to keep it clean as she would visit it often to keep her eyes on the goal. As mother completed each course she would put her final grade beside the course and would check it off the list as completed. This was mom’s way of being accountable to completing what she started. My mother is another strong supporter of my goals. She completed her Master’s degree while raising children and working full time. I would help my mother type her papers for school as she was exhausted most days but she would remind me, “Work hard now play later and you can choose the playground that you desire to play on”. It now makes more sense to me why she was determined to finish her
