The Halo That Would Not Light presents a theme of maturing and the way one rushes through childhood, but no one realizes the true meaning of childhood until they can no longer return to it. “As certain and indivisible as red scarves silking endlessly from a magician’s hollow hat and the spectacular catastrophe of your endless childhood is done.” Red scarves are sure to come from a magician’s hat during a magic show just as your childhood is sure to end one day. Your childhood is spectacular yet catastrophic because as one enters the ages nine through twelve one tries to rush into everything. Young children try so hard to end their childhood and become teenagers or adults way too fast, but no one could honestly tell the truth about why they…

One way that the novel follows through on its exploration of the differences between man-made and natural phenomena is by focusing on music, which plays an important role in these chapters. Stobrod’s repertoire of 900 fiddle tunes foregrounds the motif of sound and harmony that runs through the text. Ruby’s father talks about the tune he played to the dying girl, a melody that has now become a “habit” and that serves to give “order and meaning to a day’s end.” Ada finds it remarkable that music has redeemed Stobrod, even if this is only a partial redemption, and remains optimistic that everyone can make something of his or her life. When he played for the dying girl, it reminded him frankly of his own daughter, and he…

We had 6 lessons to explore aspects of the play which followed reading the text. In each lesson we learnt something different about the story and investigated, in different ways, key parts of the play using the strategies of still image, narration, role play, cross cutting, and imagination. We used the mediums of movement and mime, spoken language, space and levels, sound, voice and mask. It involved the elements of plot, characterisation through the Stanislavski technique, rhythm, form, artaud and contrast.…
The key observer of this whirligig was Tony, a 5th grader, who wants to play baseball but is forced to play violin instead. When he went camping with his family over the summer, his mother spotted it and used it as reinforcement to practice his instrument. “Remember the harp player Anthony, always practicing” she would say. This finally pushed him over the edge, he found a way to get out of practicing and messed up horribly at his big rehearsal. Afterwards, his teacher told him that if the whirligig played all the time, it would break. Then he quit and followed his baseball dreams.…

I believe that just the music could tell the movie without seeing anything at all. It begins with her singing by herself in the mountains The Hills are Filled with Music, which in the end as they are escaping after becoming a musical family, it could be used as a metaphor as the hills were filled with music. Next came the sisters singing how do you deal with Maria, which they sent her off to be with the captain. It was an up and down song as each would take the side of Maria and then the down part was when they were telling her flaws. The first time she was teaching the kids to sing she sang a basic song giving the notes of the music, in just hearing this you could picture someone teaching someone to sing. The Next song was during the thunderstorm, where she sang about being in a happy place and getting away from the thunderstorm. Then they sang greeting the captain's mistress, which was a nice greeting song. Not going on with every song but each song tells a part of the story, and the orchestral background helps with the mood, playing upbeat happy background music while it was going on.…
