Another main problem was fighting on the frontier, especially with the Indians, British, and Spanish. The Southwest had many problems with Indian fighting, especially the Cherokee and Creek Indians. While fighting the Indians the casualty rates were twice as high as when fighting the British. In 1786 the tribes in the Ohio Valley formed a defensive confederacy that refused to acknowledge American rule. Great Britain backed up the Northwestern tribes while Spain backed up the southeastern tribes. In 1786 Indian war tribes began killing, and spreading destruction from Pennsylvania to Georgia. The only way that whites could defeat the…

A battle that had a remarkable impact to the Indians was the battle of Little Big Horn. This battle was between Seventh Cavalry and sitting Bull’s band of hostile Sioux. The name for this battle originates because it occurred on the little Big Horn river. The reason for this battle was because during that time period there was a lot of racism against the Indian and the Cavalry wanted to kill them all. There are many points of view that tell and explain what happened in the battle one which was U.S Major Reno. There is also Lakota Chief Red horse who was an eye witness of everything that occurred. Between U.S Major Reno and Lakota Chief Red Horse they both had similarities and differences in the claims that they make as they tell the war from their points of view.…

Different groups of Indians responded differently to oppose their life style changes. For instance, Comanche and Kiowa raiding parties used the reservation during the winter to store seasonal supplies and resuming their nomadic ways during spring time. Other tribes, such as Crow, Arikara, Pawnee, and Shoshoni fought along side the U.S army to defeat their old enemy, the Sioux. This strategy helped them avoid the fate of being shipped to reservations and they were able to stay in their homeland. Indians who refused to stay on reservation where hunted down and sent back or sometimes killed.…

The Civil War of the United States fought from 1861 to 1865, left an indelible mark on the nation, affecting various communities in profound ways. One often overlooked aspect of this conflict is its impact on Native American tribes. Before the war, Native American tribes inhabited vast territories across the continent, each with its own unique cultures, traditions, and ways of life. However, the Civil War brought significant upheaval to these communities, resulting in widespread displacement, loss of land, and profound social and economic disruption. One of the key ways in which Indian tribes were affected by the Civil War was through their strategic positioning and alliances with the warring factions.…
Native Americans fought back to preserve their communities and livelihoods. They also felt strongly because Custer was attacking their homes, which contained women and children, and the army had a custom of taking no prisoners, killing every single person, even infants and mutilating their bodies for trophies and scalping the dead. A constant threat on their lives, land and liberty also made the Native Americans feel so strongly. The fact that the Native Americans were being forced out of the land because of the US’s preference is something that made them feel so strongly. Another thing that made them feel so strongly is that the Native Americans were itching for a fight; they had already defeated Crook and were definitely in no fear of the US army.…
This did not falter the War Hawks impression that America would undoubtedly win. The U.S. Army was unpretentious and poorly commanded, America scrambled to assemble its forces. At the same time, different Indian tribes debated on who to pledge their alliances with. One chief, Tecumseh believed this was his opportunity to rally alliances with Creek Indians and recover western territories. The elderly Creek Indians preferred an American alliance while the younger generation, much like the younger Americans, fought for their territory.…

One effect that the Civil War had on the Native Americans was the pay. The Civil War going on took up most of the government's resources and finances so they didn’t have anything to pay the Santee Sioux when the time came that they were supposed to pay their owed amount during the summer of 1862. And from that Long Trader Sibley took away the Sioux food supply until they paid off their debt so, the Sioux attacked the settlers but they lost the fight and went to trial, they did not have defense lawyers, were found guilty and 16 were given long prison sentences and 303 were sentenced to death. A specific Native American who had an effect during the civil war was Chief John Ross. He and most Native Americans were on the Confederate side but in…
