The Renaissance, or “rebirth” of Europe marked the downfall of the Catholic Church, however religion continued to shape the classical world. Rome was a great civilization, however it would ultimately fail because of the feudalistic society that emerged. At the beginning, religiously it was a continuation of the Greeks, simply changing the names of the Olympian gods. Eventually, Rome grew too large to sustain a republic, and became an empire.
