Why did this war happen?
The war started because of several unfair taxes and laws the British parliament had placed. They happened when the British had discovered the location of patriot leaders Samuel Adams and John Hancock, and the location of some colonial weapon storehouses. 700 British soldiers were sent to capture Samuel Adams and John Hancock and destroy the weapons. When the British were greeted with 77 colonial militiamen, both sides knew that the colonists were heavily outnumbered. Both sides were ordered to hold their fire. However, someone fired. The British fired several rounds at the colonial militiamen. The militiamen fired back. When the small shooting session was over, 8 militiamen lay dead, and the British suffered no deaths. The 700 soldiers marched on to Concord. However, the soldiers were not aware that almost all the weapons and ammunition had been hidden. They split up and went on a hopeless four-hour search and found almost nothing. At the North Bridge, about 100 British troops encountered 400 militiamen. After numerous deaths on both sides, the outnumbered British regulars rejoined the rest of the group. On their way back to Boston, more than 2000 militiamen used guerrilla warfare to pick off the British troops. At the end of the day, there were 49 colonists killed, and 73 British troops
