The people who were for secession were mainly the slave owners and the people who were against freeing slaves. Just about all of the south. The South was like the North has all of the factories and we the south we only trade and they are trying to take that away from us. They were like no because we are mainly agricultural. According to Newt Knight story, it states, “Confederate authorities had imposed the hated “tax-in-kind” system in which tax collectors took what they wanted for use by the Confederate armies.” Which made the south mad and that takes us to what the Confederate armies did to the families who lived in the south. …show more content…
According to the Newt Knight story, states, “The women of Jones, Jasper, and Smith counties were struggling to feed their hungry children”…”They took meat from the smokehouses.
They took horses, hogs, chickens, and corn. They took cloth the women had saved to make clothes for the children. Confederate Colonel William N. Brown reported that the corrupt Confederate tax officials had “done more to demoralize Jones County than the whole Yankee army.” Which we can infer that one of the reasons for secession is that the women were getting very angry because the Confederate army was taking the meats, food, and clothing. That was really made for their
children.
Slavery has been a course to the south. The people of the south was always giving their enemy the power over them. So the war was fought. Based what I read in the Letter, “Slavery has been a curse of the poor white man of the south and he would be mad indeed to desire to perpetuate it– The wealthy planter has ever been the poor man's enemy and oppressor, and the latter would be too generous by half if he desired to increase his foes power over him– You may depend upon it that in general the rich of the South despise the poor, and the poor in return hate the rich–”
They did it because it was causing more conflict. They wanted to keep slavery but Mississippi. According to -The Declaration of Causes of Seceding it states, “It has made combinations and formed associations to carry out its schemes of emancipation in the States and wherever else slavery exists. It seeks not to elevate or to support the slave, but to destroy his present condition without providing a better. It has invaded a State, and invested with the honors of martyrdom the wretch whose purpose was to apply flames to our dwellings, and the weapons of destruction to our lives. It has broken every compact into which it has entered for our security. It has given indubitable evidence of its design to ruin our agriculture, to prostrate our industrial pursuits and to destroy our social system. It knows no relenting or hesitation in its purposes; it stops not in its march of aggression and leaves us no room to hope for cessation or for pause. In conclusion, this explains. Why were certain groups opposed to the decision to secede? By showing the south struggles were the Confederate comes into your house and took food and your children's clothing. Why the people who ruled their country were into factories, and tax their goods? So now this can explain, why certain groups were for secession?
