Why Did The South Win The Civil War

The Civil war, which began in 1861, came to an end on May 13th,1865, and the Union claimed the victory. But the South were victorious in many of the earlier battles of the war, but at first they had a strong military leadership. The South’s defeat was due to poor strategy in the military and the appointment of weak generals, many people also believe that political leadership, foreign support, the supply of the army and war economics were reasons they didn’t win. The North also had mountains and rivers which made battle easier for the people who knew the area, and harder for people who did not. Also the north was much wealthier than the south and also had lots of railways to transport troops and supplies for the war. The north also had many
more factories to make supplies for the war like, ammo and guns. Troops skill level, army supply and the finances of the war was a big problem for the south. The north has a way denser population which meant the north had an advantage over the south because they had more troops to take out the south. The north also could use free blacks for troops and the south could not. The north also had a blockade which made it hard for the south to export cotton and other things to make money and fund the war. Political leadership was a factor in who was going to win. President Lincoln was on the union’s side and the confederate leaders were lower than the president so the north had an advantage. The leader for the south was Whilst Davis which was a bad leader because he didn’t have good working relationships with his colleagues and mad more enemies than friends
